(he/him)
I'm Jack Szary, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and founder of Rhythm Wellness NYC, based in Brooklyn. My path to therapy wasn't a straight line — it started with a summer job at a homeless shelter that opened my eyes to the power of human connection and support. From there, I went on to earn my master's degree from NYU, and have since worked with teachers, youth, and families in the foster care system before building my own private practice. That range of experience shapes the way I show up for every client — grounded, curious, and deeply committed to meeting you where you are. I believe that with the right support, clarity and momentum are possible, no matter what you're carrying.
Our first session is about getting to know you — your story, what's bringing you to therapy, and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. I'll ask questions to better understand your background, your current challenges, and what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. There's no pressure to have everything figured out or to share more than you're comfortable with. By the end of our first session, my goal is for you to leave with a clearer sense of what our work together might look like and, most importantly, whether we're a good fit. It's as much an opportunity for you to get a feel for me as it is for me to get a feel for you.
My greatest strength as a therapist is my ability to blend evidence-based approaches — CBT, ACT, and DBT — in a way that feels tailored rather than formulaic. I draw on whichever tools are most relevant to what a client is working through, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method. Clients often describe me as inquisitive and direct — I ask the questions that get to the heart of things, and I'm not afraid to challenge patterns or assumptions when it serves the work. I also bring a genuine curiosity to every session, which means clients feel truly seen and understood rather than like a case to be solved. Above all, I'm committed to results — helping clients build the insight and skills they need to create lasting, meaningful change.
My practice centers on helping high achievers work through anxiety, stress, trauma, and self-esteem challenges that can quietly undermine even the most accomplished lives. Using evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, and DBT, I focus on building real insight and practical skills that translate beyond the therapy room. The work is collaborative, honest, and grounded — designed for clients who are ready to move through what's holding them back and show up more fully in their lives and relationships.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build a more flexible relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions, rather than fighting or avoiding them. Through mindfulness, values exploration, and committed action, we work together to clarify what truly matters to you and take meaningful steps in that direction — even in the presence of pain or uncertainty. My goal is to help you create a rich, full life guided by your values, not limited by your fears.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge the thought patterns that keep them feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed. Together, we explore the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors — and develop practical tools you can use in everyday life. My approach is collaborative and goal-oriented, focusing on real, measurable change while honoring each client's unique experience.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build practical skills for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, and navigating crisis moments with greater confidence. Rooted in the balance between acceptance and change, DBT offers concrete tools across four key areas — mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Whether you're struggling with emotional overwhelm or patterns that feel impossible to break, I provide a structured, compassionate space to learn and grow.
