(she/her)
Sometimes the people in our lives just don’t get it. I have worked with those managing anxiety, depression, and family and relationship challenges. I also have special experience working with older adults, artists and creatives, career challenges and burnout, and people living with HIV or other health conditions. Our lives don't often offer the non-judgmental space to work through trauma, heartache, and overwhelming stress. Talking with a therapist is different from talking with a friend or family member because you are free of obligations and responsibility. It is all about you, and I will ask helpful questions, point out connections and patterns, and simply give you space to put yourself first and talk through your experiences. If you have been to therapy before, it may help to know I have the experience and training to work with those who have received a mild, moderate, or severe mental health diagnosis, but know that it is only one piece of the puzzle. Knowledge is power. I believe in psychoeduction - teaching you as much as you like about psychology and how our brains operate.
I may propose some intake forms or assessments in the future but I prefer not to send them ahead of time. Setting up the first appointment can be a big step, and we will come up with a plan together when we meet. Expect that I will meet you where you are. If you’re nervous, I will put your mind at ease. If you know what you want to work on, we will dive right in.
If you are feeling nervous or trying therapy for the first time, I can help to put you at ease and go at your pace. If you have been in therapy before, we will start with a conversation about things that didn’t work for you so we can take a different path.
Adults, older adults/seniors, caretakers, artists, career changers, burnout and work stress, people living with HIV, those coping with a new diagnoses, those living with chronic medical disorders or pain, major life transitions (leaving home, marriage, parenthood, divorce, empty nest, etc.), people brand new to telehealth or therapy who are nervous. While I do not personally share these identities, I have experience working with members of LGBTQIA+ communities, people living with disabilities, and those with immigrant or refugee experiences.
Put simply, we are all more talented and strong than we can remember in our toughest times. We will work together to identify and amplify your inherent resources, talents, and coping mechanisms, working to uncover the solutions you have deep inside. By growing your confidence, these existing strengths will help overcome challenges and achieve your therapeutic goals.
Based on what you have been through, the reaction your brain and body have to triggers is completely understandable. Through psychoeducation, grounding, CBT, and mindfulness we will train your brain to experience today’s world in a relaxed body- no matter what has been true about your world in the past.
