In our first session together, here's what you can expect

My Qualifications: I hold a Master of Arts in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Capella University located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have been serving children, adolescents, adults, and families since 2017. I am a National Certified Counselor endorsed by the National Board of Certified Counselors. My state license number is #13907. Counseling Background: I approach counseling as a collaborative process in which the client and I will be able to establish a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship. Throughout the relationship, we will work as a team to explore and define present life difficulties and develop goals for the future to promote wellness using evidenced-based practices. Person-centered counseling, Eclectic therapy, trauma-informed care and cognitive Behavioral treatment modalities are areas of experience. I make a conscious effort to help clients bring some type of resolution to all problems presented; if I feel that I am unable, I am more than willing to refer elsewhere. Ultimately, it is up to you as a client to decide what you would like to get out of the counseling relationship and whether or not you are willing or not willing to change your current predicament by trying new techniques. Clients are free to leave the counseling relationship at any time if they feel the clinician is not meeting their needs. Telehealth Counseling Telehealth Counseling is similar to face-to-face counseling, except sessions are conducted over the Internet using software that can be downloaded to your computer or mobile device. Telehealth counseling is not an emergency service. At the beginning of each session, I will verify the identity of the client and or legal guardians and their location in case of emergency. General Rules: Telehealth sessions need to occur in a secure confidential setting, with no driving, or the session will be canceled and/or rescheduled. Please wear a headset to promote confidentiality. If anyone else is in session, you need to disclose who is in session at the start of the session or the session will be canceled and or rescheduled. If someone walks into the room it is your responsibility to inform the clinician of someone’s presence to protect your confidentiality. If you are meeting at a new location within North Carolina state lines, it is your responsibility to inform the clinician of the address at the start of the session and consider the privacy of the location to protect your confidentiality and ensure your safety. There will be no recordings without my knowledge and signed written consent and I shall not record you without your knowledge and signed written consent. Telehealth sessions will not occur outside of NC state lines. Telehealth sessions will be canceled and rescheduled if the location is not private and confidential to protect your confidentiality. Please wear clothing that covers your body within each session. If clothing is not worn at the time of the session, the session will be canceled and or rescheduled. Clients must be sober within each therapy session or the session will be canceled. Benefits/Limitations of Telehealth Counseling As stated earlier, electronic forms of counseling can be a helpful alternative approach to traditional, face-to-face counseling. And at the same time, some limitations could impede the therapy experience. Some of the benefits include: 1. Flexibility for individuals who work excessive hours and experience trouble meeting traditional business hours, 2. Accessibility for those that have barriers such as disabilities, transportation and child care needs, 3. Increase in choice for those residing in rural areas, 4. Comfort for people experiencing social anxiety issues, and 5. Elimination of visibility entering/leaving a counseling office. Some limitations include 1. NOT available for those with a history of severe/chronic mental health issues and/or suicidal/homicidal ideations/attempts, 2. Some confidentiality limitations, 3. Potential for connections to be disrupted or disconnected, 4. Possibility of miscommunication due to limited body language cues and/or misinterpretation of tone of voice/inflection. Court It is not part of our counseling agreement that I provide a testimonial or expert witness service in court. This is not my area of expertise. If you anticipate that these services are part of your counseling needs for yourself or your family, let me know before we establish a counseling relationship and I am happy to provide referral sources for you. In the case that there is a court order for myself or your client file to be used as a testimony or factual case witness, or should I be involved in court-related proceedings, then you agree to pay the appropriate hourly fees and/or retainer fees. Session Fees and Length of Service All session fees are billed through the company I work for. The length of sessions varies depending on the treatment schedule for the day. Emergency Protocol You understand that if you are having suicidal or homicidal thoughts, experiencing psychotic symptoms, or are in a crisis we cannot solve remotely. You are responsible for doing all or one of the following call 911, the national suicide prevention lifeline at 988, the national domestic violence hotline at 800-799-7233. You may also visit your local emergency room for assistance at any time. Confirming this consent is your agreement to follow the emergency protocol as needed.
