New to Grow
Welcome! My name is Amy and I have been a therapist for 11 years and have treated a diverse population of individuals. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel comfortable to share. I work collaboratively with clients to explore what is happening in their lives, identify underlying patterns, and develop strategies for growth and change.
Our first session is gathering information about your history. I will ask what is bringing you to therapy and any follow up questions that I need to.
My approach is eclectic; which simply means I use different approaches for different clients. Everyone is different, so my belief is that everyone needs a different approach. I am approachable in that I want to know what is working and what is working. I want to be able to utilize the time in a way that best suit you. I am someone that will utilize humor, insights, and there are times when I will challenge.
My ideal client is someone who is ready to dive in! We will work collaboratively towards your goals. I enjoy working with clients that are open to dialogue and having a back and forth. As we move forward in our sessions and I gather more information, I will add insight into the situation based on the things I know therapeutically and from you. I am open to clients telling me that my reflections aren't correct, or that they want to work on something different. I open my sessions with checking in on you, seeing how the week went, and finally asking what is on your mind/what you would like to talk about. You are in the driver seat.
DBT has a plethora of coping skills and mindfulness techniques that can be very useful. I have had extensive training in DBT. I utilize it for clients that are wanting to learn coping skills for distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills.
I utilize different therapy approaches for each client. No two clients are the same. I have utilized this type of therapy technique for all of my clients.
Trauma is very influential in our lives once we experience it. Nothing is the same afterwards.
Humanistic therapy focuses on the your unique experiences, strengths, and potential for growth. I utilize this with all of my clients.
