Lisa Alfriend
I specialize in children and adolescents in several areas including anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting skills and parent-child relationships, and anger management. My goal is to help individuals and families reach their full potential. Starting therapy can feel daunting, you are already showing courage by looking. As your therapist, it is my priority to build a trusting relationship so we can work as a team on your goals and strengths. I use evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and mindfulness to instill hope and growth. My approach is non-judgmental, playful, honest, and practical. I strive to foster cultural humility through ongoing training and social justice work. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and committed in the pursuit of anti-racism. Currently serving Ohio, Tennessee, and Michigan. Therapeutic sessions are evidence-based, client-centered, and performed via a secure telehealth platform. I look forward to serving you, your children, and/or family.
First session
We will first get to know each other and build trust. Having a solid therapeutic relationship is important, and therapy with kids should be fun! Particularly starting out, your child may want to give me a tour of their room or have me meet their pets or family members. I utilize mindfulness with almost every child/family and we will likely practice this together. Our first session together will be getting to know one another and finding out what brought you to therapy, for kids, having coloring sheets handy or fidgets nearby can be helpful while we chat. I also may share a screen with your child to allow them to color or play a game that way.
