Greetings and salutations. I am, James Howard, your Licensed Clinician that will be assisting you on your journey to Maslow's Self-actualization (Trust me, you'll understand the reference later.) I sit in the Therapeutic counseling chair not by chance, but by hard earned life experiences and a great deal of studying that I look to enrich my clients with to help them find their mental peace and balance to a life that is rancorous and boisterous. I earned my Master’s Graduate Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2020, graduating with honors from Bowie State University in the top 1 percent of the class and currently am doctoral candidate. I read and give a great deal of study to learning and practicing the use of various modalities to be able to assist my clients in finding their path. Within the field of psychology, I have authored papers dealing with relationships and family, as well as trauma. When not seeing Clients, I am a father of two young men who are about to enter into the world. I enjoy singing badly at karaoke and reading fiction novels. In my spare time, I author my own works of fiction and currently have published novels, screenplays, and graphic novels.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will utilize our time to get to know each other to see if we are a good fit to make a strong therapeutic alliance. After brief introductions, we will then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. It is during that time we will work together to complete your intake information which will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions to ensure we advance towards your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a clinician is that I listen too and feel the heart of the client. I have great discernment, unyielding grace, and infinite level of empathy to help assist my clients in finding their most authentic self to help them heal from life's wounds.

My treatment methods

Adlerian

Adlerian theory emphasizes techniques that promote growth. For that aforementioned reason, I studied and trained in Adlerian as my main method of modality of care to help my clients that are experiencing problems that they believe effect how they show up and function in the world. I build a strong therapeutic alliance to work with clients in gaining insights into their problems and behaviors. Once a deeper understanding of themselves have occurred, clients can then work on learning new skills and behaviors that will help them overcome these problems that presented.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use the modality of (CBT) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ultimately to teach clients to be their own therapist, by helping them to understand their current ways of thinking and behaving. Once clients have an understanding they are then equipped with the tools to change their maladaptive cognitive and behavioral patterns.

Christian Counseling

For Clients that are spiritually inclined to have a therapist of faith, I provide Christian Counseling therapy. The faith based modality integrates Christian faith and principles with traditional psychological practices. The goal is to help individuals, couples, and families address emotional, mental, and spiritual issues in a way that aligns with their faith covering aspects of; Ethical Standards, Prayer, Spiritual Foundations, and Holistic Approach.

Existential

I utilize the modality of Existential Therapy in treating psychological concerns that are thought to result from an inhibited ability to make authentic, meaningful, and self-directed choices. My intervention of treatment methods often aim to increase self-awareness and self-understanding. My goal is to help my clients find meaning in the face of anxiety by choosing to think and act responsibly and by confronting negative internal thoughts rather than focusing on external forces like societal pressures. When we have completed goals, clients will foster creativity, love, authenticity, and free will that help move them you toward their best version of themselves.

Couples Counseling

I specialize in Couples/Marital Counseling. Whether you're dealing with specific issues like communication problems or trust issues, or you simply want to strengthen your bond, couples counseling offers a safe space to explore and resolve these concerns by addressing key points of the relationship which has fallen into disrepair. Points that are covered range from; communication improvement, goal setting, rebuilding trust, and intimacy and connection.
