New to Grow
Hello, my name is Ginger Van Meter. I look at each individual as an iceberg! There's a tiny piece of ice you can see on the surface but down below and much deeper is a giant piece of ice that no one can see. That giant piece of ice represents all the stressors, emotional and mental health concerns that go back many years. Sometimes childhood trauma or even current events can create problems that we just can't seem to solve. I will help you to break that ice down and possibly even melt the ice. I always strive to do the best I can do to provide relief and comfort and help life become more manageable.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During our first session together, we will "get to know each other". I want you to feel free to ask any questions you may have at any time. You also want to make sure it's a "good fit" for you and that you feel comfortable. We will discuss your symptoms and review your initial intake. We will schedule your next appointment and then from there we will create goals that we can measure over time to ensure we are making progress toward those goals. I will then provide therapeutic techniques to use between sessions after the initial visit.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have empathy and understanding of each individual's unique situation and circumstances. I strive to create an environment (virtual) where you feel comfortable and eager to learn new skills. I form my skills and techniques according to your needs and your symptoms. We work together and are on the same team!
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I have worked with clients all ages, ethnicities, and color. I also work with the LBGTQ community. I like to set goals and objectives (how we will reach those goals) and then devise a plan of action. I like to provide worksheets periodically and homework between sessions to help you practice techniques and discuss during the next session. It doesn't matter where you came from, your socio-economic status or where you've been in your life, the important part is we are all human and have basic human needs. We deserve to be happy and to have a healthy mind and the ability to manage it where you feel safe and secure.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Toxic thoughts, depression, anxiety, etc. are frequently aggravated by the inability to manage our thoughts. CBT examines these unhelpful thought processes that create a negative feedback loop and helps to unravel those thoughts to be more manageable.
Couples Counseling
Let's face it.... if you're in a relationship, you have experienced difficulty in some area of your life with that individual. Sometimes you become "stuck" with the same behaviors and responses that continue to create problems in the relationship. Couples Counseling helps with skills and strategies to break these patterns and learn new ways to handle the same situations that created problems before.
Grief Therapy
Everyone experiences grief at some point in their lives. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, a pet, or the ending of a relationship. Grief Therapy helps you to know that your experience with loss is natural and creates ways to be able to move forward even in the midst of the storms.
Attachment-based
Attachment-based therapy is a way of allowing you to see the different attachment styles and identify past and present issues that it may be creating in a relationship, at work, or with family members.
Child Parent Psychotherapy
It is no secret that parents and their children will have conflict. If you have children, it's easy to identify with that statement. This type of therapy helps parent and child identify core concerns and allows both to learn new ways to manage difficulties that create an overall better relationship
