Marie Vernal
Hello! My name is Marie! I am a LCSW therapist that focuses on trauma, PTSD and military. I was inspired to become a therapist after recognizing the lack of accessible mental health services among lower-income families and the many barriers that prevent individuals from receiving the support they need. I wanted to become a mental health professional who could provide culturally competent, compassionate, and affordable care to individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. My goal has always been to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and respected. I believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care, regardless of their income, background, or life circumstances.
First session
During our first session, my priority is getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant life experiences, strengths, and what you hope to accomplish through therapy. There is no expectation that you share everything at once. I want you to feel comfortable, heard, and respected throughout the process. Together, we will begin identifying your goals and developing a treatment approach that fits your individual needs. My hope is that you leave your first session feeling understood, supported, and confident that you have a safe space to work toward meaningful change.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to meet clients where they are without judgment. I understand that life experiences, culture, family dynamics, and personal circumstances all influence how we navigate the world. I bring empathy, patience, cultural awareness, and authenticity into my sessions. My approach is supportive and compassionate, but I am also willing to challenge clients when necessary. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe enough to be vulnerable while also being encouraged to grow. I work collaboratively with my clients, helping them recognize their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and make meaningful changes at a pace that feels right for them.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, major life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life. They may feel stuck, misunderstood, emotionally exhausted, or unsure of how to move forward. I especially enjoy working with individuals who want a safe and nonjudgmental space to process their experiences while developing practical tools to create meaningful change. You do not have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. My role is to meet you where you are, help you better understand yourself and your experiences, and work alongside you toward greater emotional wellness, confidence, and stability.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach by creating a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself without fear of judgment. Rather than assuming I know what is best for you, I take time to understand your experiences, values, needs, and goals. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support and guide you as we work together. Sessions are tailored to where you are emotionally, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace while building greater self-awareness, confidence, and trust in yourself.
