Hello, my name is Lanonie. I have been a nurse practitioner since 2017, beginning my career as a Family Nurse Practitioner and later expanding my expertise to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2021. Over the years, I have had the privilege of providing care across the lifespan—from children and adolescents to adults and older adults. My clinical experience includes working with individuals managing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, eating disorders, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, and other mental health concerns. As a single mother to an 11-year-old, I understand the importance of balancing life’s challenges while prioritizing health and well-being.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Clients can expect to leave sessions feeling heard, supported, and equipped with a clearer path forward. My goal is for each person to gain a better understanding of their mental health, develop practical tools for managing symptoms, and feel empowered to actively participate in their treatment. Whether through medication management, supportive therapy, or lifestyle strategies, I aim to provide education and guidance that clients can apply in their daily lives. Over time, clients often experience improved stability, greater resilience, and a renewed sense of hope and confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

A strong therapeutic alliance is at the heart of my practice as a PMHNP. I believe that meaningful progress begins with a trusting, collaborative relationship between clinician and client. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their care. Building rapport through empathy, authenticity, and consistent support helps my clients feel comfortable exploring difficult emotions and developing insight into their experiences. In addition to fostering this connection, I rely on evidence-based therapies to guide my clinical decisions and interventions. By combining a strong therapeutic alliance with evidence-based interventions, I help clients feel both supported and equipped—supported through compassionate connection and equipped with practical, research-informed strategies for lasting change. This balance allows clients to develop self-awareness, resilience, and confidence in their ability to manage their mental health long-term.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve individuals who are ready to take an active role in improving their mental health and are open to exploring a combination of therapy and medication management. I work well with clients who may be experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, mood instability, trauma-related symptoms, or difficulty managing stress, and who are motivated to better understand themselves and their treatment options. My ideal clients are those who are ready for change, even if they’re unsure where to start. They value collaboration and appreciate a holistic, compassionate approach that integrates psychotherapy, medication management, and lifestyle interventions. Whether someone is beginning their mental health journey or seeking to optimize their current treatment plan, I aim to create a supportive environment that empowers them to make informed choices, build resilience, and achieve lasting well-being.

My treatment methods

Psychoeducation

As a PMHNP, I use psychoeducation as a core component of nearly every treatment plan. My experience with this approach has shown that when patients and their families understand the nature of mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies, outcomes improve significantly. Psychoeducation involves providing patients with clear, evidence-based information about their diagnosis, symptoms, medication management, and therapeutic interventions.

Motivational Interviewing

As a PMHNP, I frequently use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help patients explore and resolve ambivalence toward change. My experience with MI has been especially valuable when working with individuals struggling with substance use disorders, medication nonadherence, lifestyle changes, or treatment resistance. MI aligns well with the principles of patient-centered care—it respects the patient’s autonomy and emphasizes empathy, collaboration, and empowerment. I use MI techniques to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where patients feel heard and understood. Rather than telling patients what to do, I guide them to articulate their own reasons for change.
