Hello, I am Chris Coleman. I possess 2 Masters degrees: Professional Counseling & Addiction Counseling & 2 licenses in Virginia: Licensed Professional Counselor & Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Provider. I am licensed in Maryland as an LCPC, North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and in Washington, D.C. as a therapist and substance use disorder therapist. I work with those challenged with substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders. I have over two decades in the field, demonstrating compassion, non-condemning, empathic setting, with a direct approach to meet you where you are. Also, I am an ordained minister, disciple, believer & follower of Christ.
When we meet , we'll start with brief introductions, and in the assessment, we will build a working relationship, to find out where you are, and where you desire to go. Then, we'll look at the specific challenges you're facing. This will help us to create a plan, like tailor made clothing, for us to work through in following sessions. Currently my intake slots are also my session availability slots; therefore, keep in mind, that may be the day and time we'd meet, if you choose to move forward with me as your therapist. Where are you, where would you like to be & how can I assist you in getting there?
Having worked in this field for the time I have, there is one of many statements that help guide me in working with you: "If it causes a problem, then it is a problem". My strengths start with my compassion and empathy for people, and the two greatest tools: My ears! and heart! Hearing your story of what your desire, ability, reason, need, commitment, activation and time to change is. Why? to get you, liberated!
Have you wondered, "what's wrong with me?!" My approach is, "What happened to you?!" Do you find yourself struggling with racing, running thoughts, lacking motivation, direction, finding difficulty with dealing with life on life terms, and the only way to quiet the noise, find some calm is to use substances? Perhaps some other unwanted coping skill? I enjoy working with people just like you, to get you liberated.
