Hello! My name is Cassandra Simpson, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Virginia. I received my master's degree in professional counseling from Ottawa University and I have been practicing for close to 8 years. I help adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma. I enjoy helping these individuals overcome their symptoms and return to a normal level of daily functioning.
Our first session is an intake where we will begin with brief introductions and then I will ask questions to find out more about your background. I will ask about your upbringing, current support system in your life and the issues you are currently facing. Then we will collaborate on the goals you want to achieve in therapy and begin working on those in your subsequent therapy sessions.
I think my greatest strengths as a provider come from having worked with many individuals who have a variety of traumas. Having worked with clients over the last 8 years that have experienced significant trauma, has allowed me to have a broader understanding of how it presents and how to help the clients heal from its effects.
I like to utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to assist client's in learning how to challenge and reframe negative thinking patterns. This helps the client to shift their perspective and can allow them to have a positive outlook on their circumstances.
Trauma-Focused CBT is useful in assisting the client to cognitively process traumatic events, providing psychoeducation on how trauma negatively impacts an individual mentally and physically. This allows the client to have a broader understanding of the importance of processing traumatic events appropriately.
