Hello! My name is Cassandra Simpson, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Virginia. I received my master's degree in professional counseling from Ottawa University and I have been practicing for over 8 years. I help adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma. I enjoy helping these individuals overcome their symptoms and return to a normal level of daily functioning.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session is an intake where we will begin with brief introductions and then I will ask questions to find out more about your background. I will ask about your upbringing, current support system in your life and the issues you are currently facing. Then we will collaborate on the goals you want to achieve in therapy and begin working on those in your subsequent therapy sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I think my greatest strengths as a provider come from having worked with many individuals who have a variety of traumas. Having worked with clients over the last 8 years that have experienced significant trauma, has allowed me to have a broader understanding of how it presents and how to help the clients heal from its effects.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with a variety of adults, from all populations and cultures who are experiencing mental distress due to unprocessed childhood traumatic events. My client's understand that issues from their childhood are affecting them but are not aware of the significance that childhood trauma can have on their overall mental and physical health. My client's learn how to cognitively process these traumatic events and this decreases the level of emotional distress caused by triggers. These client's will become empowered in a way they did not know was achievable, this in turn allows them to take back the power those traumas have had over them.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I like to utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to assist client's in learning how to challenge and reframe negative thinking patterns. This helps the client to shift their perspective and can allow them to have a positive outlook on their circumstances.

Integrative

Integrative therapy is a holistic approach that focuses on treating each client as an individual by pulling from different therapeutic models to address the client's presenting issues. This enables me to tailor the treatment to the individual and their unique experiences which make them who they are.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma informed care helps me to recognize the client’s past experiences and how these may have negatively impacted their overall mental, physical and emotional well-being. By approaching the client from this perspective, I can assist them in working through these past events on their path to healing from the trauma.
