I'm Jeremy, and I am a licensed professional counselor with over nine years of experience helping clients build happier, healthier lives.
I work with clients from adolescence through adulthood on a variety of topics including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, stress management, relationship concerns, setting boundaries, and communication skills.
First session
Our first meeting is your time to shine - I want to get to know you! Tell me what's been happening in your life that lead you to try counseling. We'll talk about your key goals and what you hope to get from the experience, and how I can help get you there. I will help explain the general outline of the therapy process, and answer any questions you may have about how therapy works and what you can expect.
Strengths
Our sessions are all about you - I want you to feel safe sharing anything that's on your mind without fear of judgment or rejection. I listen with empathy, giving direct but gentle guidance to help you move in the direction you want. My clients often tell me that they feel comfortable being unguarded and unfiltered in our sessions, enabling them to explore topics that they might not have ever shared with other people before.
Ideal clients
Many of my clients are young adults navigating life transitions, such as leaving home for the first time, starting or ending a relationship, or moving into a new stage of life. I also enjoy working with LGBT+ clients who are looking for a safe space to process identity concerns, relationship issues, and stress management. I help clients identify and implement healthy boundaries with themselves and others, practice assertive and clear communication, and build a toolkit of healthy mood management skills. I love exploring reflective questioning with clients to better understand the "why" behind our actions and feelings, as well as understanding the meanings we assign to certain parts of our lives.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In session, I use CBT-based principles and techniques to help clients better understand the interactions between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This includes identifying and challenging unhealthy thought patterns and beliefs, developing healthier ways to regulate emotions, and implementing positive action to move you closer to your goals. I also incorporate concepts from a systemic perspective, helping clients understand their role within a system (i.e. family, school, workplace, community) and how these relationships affect their wellbeing.
