(she/her)
Hello and welcome to a pathway of healing! My name is Sunita Persaud and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LICSW) with over 16 years of therapeutic experience. I have provided support to persons from adolescence into adulthood and provide intentional culturally diverse services. My journey includes obtaining a Master Degree of Social Work and a Master Degree of Arts in Special Education. I provide virtual psychotherapy for individuals seeking clarity of sustainable change from anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationships and crisis situations.
Our first session will be getting to know you and what your short-term as well as long-term goals might be. If these are not known initially, these are insights we can review and discuss. If there are no immediate goals, let's began where you are and process through where you want to be in this journey. This is a safe space of comfort on a virtual platform. Sessions often include mindfulness activities, coping skill exploration, goal setting and review of progress. We will check in after five (5) sessions to assess progress and how things are going. After 10 sessions, we will check in again and discuss what supports are most helpful at that time.
My approach to therapy is grounded, collaborative and structured which is designed for those who may appear high functioning on the outside while experiencing trauma, grief, anxiety, depression and other emotions beneath the surface. I embrace that trust, honesty, open-mindedness and willingness are some key components towards effective outcomes. Let's start this journey today; any time is the right time. I look forward to meeting with you!
Mental Health is not an identity. This space provides support to work towards healing, relief and moving towards a place that feels peaceful with balance. Situations can show up and present in unforeseen impacts. These challenges hide in our smiles, sleep, work and everyday functioning. If you feel overwhelmed, be encouraged to step into your purpose. Reach out and grasp the support you deserve. I have experience in person-centered therapy, CBT, crisis intervention, solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. This includes those experiencing depressive mood, anxiety, grief and loss, relational conflicts and racial inequities. Let's began to work through barriers and overcome hurdles that can be moved.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT has been a part of my practice modality for over 15 years. Application of method includes, but not limited to, support with replacing negative thought patterns through reframing views, collaborative problem solving, homework to apply healthy skills and reflection of effectiveness.
Couples Counseling
I have over 10 years with couples counseling, primarily in crisis situations. My practice is supporting a neutralized space that encourages healthy communication, emotional availability, conflict management , solution focused and intimate skills building.
Grief Therapy
My experience with grief therapy has been through crisis situations when depressive mood has intensified with suicidal ideation and/or substance use. In my practice, treatment includes validation of emotional presence, CBT, narrative therapy and acceptance of loss through journaling, and processing through the life cycle (if applicable), understanding the "story".
Motivational Interviewing
I have over 5 years of experience with MI. Application of practice includes OARS techniques. Framing questions to allow for client to explore self thoughts, reframing, affirmations and development of realistic personal goals for self.
Racial trauma treatment
I have experience with this treatment method and have applied this modality in community based group settings, individual psychotherapy and crisis intervention. I use this treatment method by validating cultural experiences of impact, application of grounding techniques, CBT skills and restorative justice approaches.
