Hello! I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California for over 20 years. I have moved to North Carolina, and most recently Florida, and obtained licensure in those states as well. I am a graduate of the University of Southern California and Loyola Marymount University. I enjoy working with couples, families, adolescents, and women.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I like to start with a brief overview of your history and current life circumstances and then begin to identify the areas of struggle that you would like help with. I will summarize my understanding of your goals for therapy and encourage you to correct or add to my assessment of your concerns, and set a direction to begin at the next session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel that I am skilled at understanding the perspective of the client and presenting an alternative way of thinking about and acting on an issue, in a way that they are open to considering and trying a change.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with new couples to explore the common areas of conflict in long-term relationships and proactively address those issues before they become problematic. I enjoy working with long-term couples who have unresolved issues and resentments and helping them express themselves productively and understand their partner and collaborate on getting both of their needs met in a healthier and stronger relationship. I also enjoy working with individuals on finding their self-worth and setting boundaries and expectations for how they wish to be treated in a relationship.

My treatment methods

Couples Counseling

I specialize in working with relationship issues encompassing a full spectrum of life stages, including premarital counseling, marriage therapy, divorce planning, and co-parenting education and counseling. From nurturing and protecting early relationships from the inevitable areas of conflict to come, to repairing and enriching struggling couple relationships, to making the hard choice to separate and devising the most amicable and functional plan, I work with couples to achieve their goals to optimize the functioning of their relationship.

Family Therapy

I have a broad range of experience working with families in many different forms and circumstances. This may include a family adjusting to new parenthood, or navigating the unchartered waters of life with an adolescent. There may be disagreements between the parents over their philosophies on how to raise children, or there may be parent-child conflicts. The family may be comprised of a single parent, or involve the complications of adjusting to a blended family. Divorced parents may be struggling with collaborating on a parenting plan that serves the best interests of their children. I strive to help families to be at their best level of functioning in whatever form they take.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years' experience providing therapy to adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I work with my clients to create a supportive, solution-focused environment to improve coping with life's challenges, develop healthier and more fulfilling relationships, and achieve a more satisfying quality of life.

Motivational Interviewing

An engagement approach with clients to meet them where they are in the process of change, non-directive, to assist them in determining their need, desire, and commitment to change.

Gottman method

I enjoy using these techniques and materials with couples who wish to supplement therapy with assessments and homework assignments outside of the session.
