New to Grow
I am first generation, bilingual and bicultural. I come from a large family and I'm a mother. I grew up in an urban environment navigating a changing urban landscape while understanding intersections of multicultural communities and diverse identities. I am a licensed clinical social worker.and I have over 13 years of experience working with clients. I've worked in crisis units, in-patient hospitals, mobile crisis teams, intensive outpatient, intensive case management, and individual therapy.
During our first session, we will get to know each other. I want to understand your challenges and your goals. I also want you to ask any questions you may have for me. Tell me what you've liked about therapy or what has kept you from moving forward with therapy. I want to know what you want to get from therapy, and how you expect therapy to help you. We can discuss my approach and we'll see if we can make a good team for your growth.
Of course humor is always in the room with us. After establishing a therapeutic bond, I never lose sight of the fact that my job is to hold a mirror to you. With compassionate accountability, my clients are able to grow. I'm very client centered it's only a problem if you think it's a problem my job isn't to identify problems, but rather work on behaviors that you have identified as a problem.
My clients are usually someone who is first or second generation immigrant or higher education, they may be navigating family, work/life balance, and/or life transitions. The bulk of my experience has been serving young professionals from marginalized communities who identify as BIPOC and members of the queer community. Some themes that come up with my clients are codependency, enmeshment, family challenges, non-profit industrial complex, microaggressions both professionally and casually, and relationship challenges.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Guided by a strong client centered focus, we will also utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy to identify the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We will challenge negative thinking patterns, and replacing them with more adaptive, rational thoughts to improve emotional regulation and change harmful behaviors.
