Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) allows you to challenge thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that impact your mood, outlook, and behavior. While life challenges will remain, CBT can relieve depression and anxiety that can accompany chronic illnesses. CBT can help when our experience of chronic illness has impacted our perspectives about ourselves, the future, and the world in general.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Medical illnesses can create challenges for our mental health. People with chronic illnesses fight long battles that others don't know are happening. A therapist can help to create a healthy space between you and the thoughts and feelings associated with your mood and create new ways to relate to illness. No matter what the technique, it is always my priority to provide a space for peoples stories to be heard.
Motivational Interviewing
The name Motivational Interviewing does not do this approach justice. It honors the client as their own expert and highlights the client's own thoughts and feelings to support positive change.
