New to Grow
Hello, my name is Everlin Fernández. I am a bilingual (English-Spanish) Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in mental health, chronic illness management, and community-based care. I am currently completing my second doctoral degree in the United States, with a focus on improving training and outcomes for professionals caring for older adults with chronic conditions. I also lead a private mental health practice and am passionate about integrating evidence-based approaches, such as motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy, into holistic, person-centered care.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
My greatest strength is my ability to combine clinical expertise with deep empathy and cultural sensitivity to provide holistic, patient-centered mental health care. I have a unique talent for connecting with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, especially in underserved communities, and helping them feel heard, respected, and empowered. Whether working with older adults facing complex psychiatric and medical issues or supporting caregivers under pressure, I bring compassion, professionalism, and evidence-based strategies to every encounter.
I am best positioned to serve adults and older adults facing mental health challenges, particularly those dealing with chronic conditions, cognitive decline, grief, anxiety, depression, or severe psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. My clients often include individuals who may also be caregivers under stress, or families in need of guidance and support in navigating the emotional and behavioral complexities of aging and mental illness. I provide culturally sensitive, bilingual care (English/Spanish), with a deep understanding of both the clinical and emotional needs of patients and their families.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered counseling style designed to help individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about behavior change. Rather than telling a patient what to do, MI seeks to evoke their own motivation for change.
