New to Grow
Hi, I’m Suheiry (or just sue), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and PhD candidate based in South Florida. My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, and strength-based, with a focus on helping individuals and couples better understand themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that shape their emotional lives. I have experience working with individuals and couples with high conflict, life transitions, trauma, addiction, and domestic violence, and I strive to create a supportive space where clients can process difficult experiences and feel more confident navigating their lives.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to begin building a therapeutic relationship in a safe and supportive space. I understand that starting therapy can feel uncertain, so I strive to create an environment where you feel understood from the very beginning. During our first session, we will work together to gain a clear understanding of what is bringing you to therapy and what you hope will be different as a result of counseling. I may ask questions about your current concerns, important relationships, and strengths, while moving at a pace that feels respectful and comfortable for you. Whether you come in with specific goals or simply know that something isn't working and you want something different, you don't have to have it all figured out before starting therapy. Together, we'll clarify your goals, identify what support would be most helpful, and create a plan that is tailored to your unique needs.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to walk alongside clients during some of life's most difficult and emotionally challenging seasons. I have experience working with complex, high-intensity dynamics and approach each client with compassion, curiosity, and care. My doctoral training in Marriage and Family Therapy informs my therapeutic approach, which is relational, collaborative, and strength-based. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or diagnoses, I work to understand clients within the context of their relationships and life experiences. I strive to provide a steady and supportive presence while helping my clients make sense of their experiences. Together, we will identify recurring patterns, explore the function those patterns have served, and develop new ways of responding that are more aligned with the clients' goals and values. Through this process, clients often gain greater self-awareness, a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships, and increased confidence in making decisions that reflect who they want to be.
My ideal clients are individuals and couples exploring complex relational or family dynamics and wanting to better understand how these experiences shape their emotional well-being, relationships, and sense of self. I have experience working with trauma, addiction, domestic violence, and major life transitions, and understand how these experiences can impact both individuals and their relationships. Many of the clients I work with feel stuck in recurring relational patterns, family conflict, emotional overwhelm, or feel that something unresolved has been weighing on them for a long time. I work best with clients who are open to self-reflection and interested in understanding not only their symptoms, but also the relational and generational patterns connected to them.
Other specialties
I identify as
Relational
As a marriage and family therapist, my work is grounded in relational therapy. I am to understand how individuals function within their relationships and how they are shaped by their family of origin dynamics. I pay attention to how symptoms and behaviors show up not only individually, but also relationally between people and across generations. I work collaboratively with clients to increase insight into relational patterns, emotional reactivity, communication, and family dynamics while creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment that fosters growth, connection, and meaningful change.
Strength-Based
I also approach therapy from a strength-based perspective. I do not view clients solely through the lens of their problems, diagnoses, or symptoms, but instead believe that each person has inherent strengths and resources. I explore the survival and relational patterns clients have developed over time and help them identify new ways of responding that better align with their current goals and relationships. My goal is to help clients gain insight on their own processes and build upon their existing strengths while empowering them to feel more confident in making decisions about their own lives. I seek to help my client develop a stronger sense of self, autonomy, and direction.
