I knew from my first day of my psychiatric clinical rotation that I wanted to commit my career to helping people with their mental health problems. I realized I found a true joy in sitting with individuals experiencing a crisis and helping others battling a myriad of issues. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, before completing a Master of Science in Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After obtaining nearly a decade of clinical practice, I returned to Emory to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing. Over the past 24 years in this profession, I have provided medication management, psychiatric assessments, and have overseen complex medication regimens for thousands of patients with mental illness and substance use disorders. During this time I have also held multiple supervisory and adjunct faculty roles, including working as a clinical assistant professor in the nursing school at Emory University and Florida International University.
In our first session together, we'll have to chance to review your intake forms and assessement screenings. We will talk about your backgroud and mental health journey. We will focus most of our time on your primary areas of concerns. Towards the end of our meeting, I'll share my clinical impressions and together we'll decide the best treatment options and plan for you.
Multiple degrees and years of experience do not guarantee an individual is a great clinician. I believe what separates me from other providers is my unique ability to make almost anyone feel safe with me. I strive to meet patients where they are, listen to what they need and goals of where they want to go. I bring positive energy and creativity to the sessions and overall treatment planning so that patients feel good about the care they are receiving. I love working with clients who are new to treatment, who may have reservations about medications, but are open to starting their journey to attain mental wellness. I believe as a woman and a person of color I can identify strongly with those who may feel marginalized, abused or mistreated by others.
I’ve been using CBT techniques for several years. It’s helped dozens of clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.
