Christy McDonald
Hi, I’m Christy. Do you worry about being judged when choosing a counselor? You are likely here because you feel overwhelmed with life’s challenges or relationship problems. You may think that no one understands your feelings or the difficulties you are experiencing. Whatever your current circumstances, I am here for you while you learn the tools to reach your personal goals and help you to make positive changes through self-awareness and empowerment. I have been a licensed counselor for 15 years and a counselor supervisor for 8 years. Most of my clients have various problems, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, and decreased self-esteem. In addition, many may have relationship problems or co-dependent behaviors due to experiencing trauma during their childhood or adolescent years. Finally, most of my clients are dealing with changes that may be unfamiliar to them. I want to help navigate these difficulties.
First session
During our first session we will discuss primary concerns, a brief history of your lived experiences, and establish "your" treatment goals with my guidance. The goal of the first session is to develop a plan to improve your overall well-being and life satisfaction.
Strengths
Although my primary current focus is on the adult population, I have had extensive training and experience working with children and adolescents. This experience will help my adult clients navigate concerns with children or family dynamics. I also have extensive training and experience with trauma in that I have worked with military-connected clients as well as individuals who have experienced different forms of abuse. Although some forms of trauma may require more intensive therapy models appropriate for in-person environments, my knowledge will help guide treatment needs, if necessary.
Ideal clients
Adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, or relationship concerns.
