Hello, my name is Alexandria “Alex” Arthur. I am here to help guide you through your trauma recovery. Congratulations on taking that first step into your emotional wellness! Life is tough but so are you! I am a Doctor in Traumatology and a LPC. I have counseled LEOs & Veterans. I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing or EMDR, CBT, Crisis Intervention, crisis, and Victim/Witness advocation. I have also held Sexual Assault Awareness events and have worked with domestic violence individuals.
The first session will be dedicated to getting to know one another and going over what brought you to counseling. We will talk about historic events, present situations, and what you would like to get out of treatment.
One of my strengths is understanding that each individual is just that, an individual. Each person has their characteristics, emotions, behaviors, and so on. That means that each client's treatment journey will be individualized. I focus on the person in front of me and am determined to support them in any way I can because, at the end of the day, I want my clients "Happy, Healthy, and Safe".
Whether you are facing trauma, depression, fear, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, the stigma of seeking help, borderline/personality, negative self-talk, and/or any other mental health-related issues, I believe that by working together, we can develop a treatment plan centered on you and your specific needs. With counseling the more work you put in, the more you get out of it!
Doctor Alexandria Arthur offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
We will use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to support healing from your trauma memories. EMDR targets the disturbance and alleviates it through eye motion. EMDR heals the mind, body, and soul from trauma.
We will use ERP with OCD diagnosis, anxiety disorders, and others to help you gain back control of your life. With ERP we will sit with those obsessive/anxious thoughts and decrease the need of using compulsions to alleviate the emotional distress.
