About me

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of populations, including individuals grappling with substance abuse, those navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system, seniors facing various challenges, individuals struggling with mental health issues, and children in foster care. This extensive experience has allowed me to cultivate a deep sense of empathy, enabling me to appreciate the unique narratives that each person carries. I recognize that every individual is shaped by their distinct circumstances and experiences. By approaching each person as a unique case, I am able to ask myself, "How can I truly help them?" This understanding fosters a connection that transcends generalizations, allowing me to relate to people from a place of genuine compassion and insight into their specific needs and struggles.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During the initial session, my primary goal is to establish a genuine connection with the client. We live in a world where many individuals rarely have the chance to express their thoughts and feelings about the challenges they face. When they are given the opportunity to speak freely in a safe and supportive environment, it significantly eases the burden of communication. They don't have to conform to any specific expectations or fit into predefined categories; instead, they can authentically embrace who they are. By guiding them through a process of self-discovery and exploration, I help them gain insight into their own identities. This journey not only allows them to move beyond their suffering but also empowers them to understand how to foster healthier relationships with themselves and others.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths lies in recognizing and celebrating a person's growth. I believe it's essential to acknowledge that even the smallest changes in perspective can lead to profound shifts in our approach to life. I strive to help my clients understand that life doesn't always have to feel overwhelming or demanding. During our sessions together, my goal is to provide them with a sense of peace and tranquility—something that can be quite rare in today's fast-paced world. I want my clients to feel supported and encouraged as they navigate their journeys, knowing that their progress, no matter how minor it may seem, is truly valuable.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am committed to assisting individuals in their journeys of personal growth and transformation. Witnessing such changes enables us to provide meaningful support, and in turn, those individuals can extend their capacity to assist others. This process involves acknowledging one's identity and making informed choices related to family and career, ultimately shaping a more promising future.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

The concept of person-centered care holds immense significance, as it empowers clients to navigate their lives beyond the confines of treatment. This approach fosters motivation and resilience, equipping individuals with the cognitive tools necessary to tackle daily anxieties, manage symptoms, and confront the discomforts associated with mental health challenges and everyday issues. By placing the client at the heart of their journey, we cultivate an environment where they feel supported, understood, and capable of overcoming obstacles in their daily lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on the intricate relationship among our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It emphasizes how our interpretations of situations can shape emotional responses, leading us to certain conclusions or reactions. In my therapy sessions, I guide individuals in rewriting these narratives, helping them understand that just because they think a certain way doesn’t necessarily dictate the outcome. By challenging negative thought patterns and reframing experiences, we can foster a healthier mindset and promote positive change in their lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) plays a crucial role in addressing mood disorders by emphasizing mindfulness, emotional regulation, and exploring how our behaviors shift across different environments. Understanding the underlying reasons for these behavioral changes is essential, as it enables us to identify and analyze our behavior patterns across different contexts. Furthermore, it is important to recognize the aspects of our minds that can sometimes dominate our actions, making it difficult to distinguish between our emotions and our behaviors. Developing a deeper understanding of our emotions is a fundamental component of mental health, enabling us to address our challenges effectively through a combination of appropriate medication and counseling. This holistic approach fosters clearer insight into our emotional landscape, ultimately leading to improved well-being and more effective coping strategies.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

Anxiety is a significant obstacle that prevents many individuals from fully engaging in life, whether that's securing a job, spending quality time with family, or exploring the wonders of the outside world. Exposure Response Therapy has garnered a strong reputation for effectively addressing not only the symptoms of anxiety but also conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders. This therapeutic approach encourages individuals to reframe their understanding of anxiety, helping them see it as an integral part of their experience rather than a force that controls their actions. As a licensed therapist, I have witnessed firsthand how this method empowers clients to reclaim their lives and develop a healthier relationship with their anxiety.

Family Therapy

Working with families as a cohesive unit is incredibly important for nurturing growth and understanding. Often, individuals within the family seek help on their own, but this approach overlooks the interconnected nature of family dynamics. If there is something amiss within one part of the system, it can disrupt the whole, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive perspective. My primary focus in family systems is to help families recognize and embrace their unique growth trajectories. Each member of the family evolves in their own way, and this variation does not necessitate the dismantling of the family. Instead, it’s crucial to foster understanding about our individual ups and downs and acknowledge that we each progress through different stages of life at our own pace. By coming together and appreciating these differences, families can strengthen their bonds and create a more harmonious, supportive environment for everyone.
