New to Grow
Life can feel heavy and overwhelming, and we don’t have to carry everything alone. I’m here to help shoulder some of that weight and guide you toward the life you’re envisioning. I practice from a holistic perspective, considering all aspects of your life and how they influence one another. Even when we focus on a single concern, we’ll explore the broader patterns and connections that shape your wellbeing. Growth is rarely linear, and we’ll navigate that journey together with intention and compassion to help you get lasting change. I thrive with clients who understand they need to work for change, want to gain insight and value personal evolution. Sessions often lead to new insights, “aha” moments, and sometimes even a laugh or two. Humor doesn’t replace healing, but it sure can soften the edges of difficult moments. For my qualifications, I’m have a bachelor’s in Social Work and a master’s degree in counseling earned back in 2013. My background spans substance abuse treatment, grief and trauma work, suicide prevention, attention concerns, and mood and anxiety disorders — I’ve walked alongside people through some of life’s toughest chapters. And if you’re interested in Law of Attraction coaching, I also offer that as a way to help you align your mindset with your goals and dreams.
Our first session together will be a time in which I gather information about what brings you to therapy, what you are looking to get out of therapy, and gather a wide variety of information about your life (mental health symptoms and experiences in therapy, physical health concerns, supports, legal issues, coping skills, and fun activities). This is also a time for you to get to know me and to see if you think we would be a good fit.
I am rooted in a strengths-based approach though I also focus on the realities of life to be a mirror for the clients I work with. I have been told by clients that I am a strong listener, I am supportive and understanding, and I am informative. I am known for my easy-going nature, yet I take therapy very seriously. I focus on my clients getting the care they need while kindly challenging thought patterns and behaviors that do not seem to be working for them anymore.
Most of my clients come to me during transitions. Whether it is just getting out of college and/or entering the workforce for the first time, in the process of becoming a parent, entering perimenopause, or becoming an official senior (or adult children of senior parents), I seem to be the go-to person to help with the life change. I also have many clients who are struggling with executive functioning limitations or perfectionism, which cause a lot of distress and interfere with their quality of life. No matter what the concern is, I am happy to be here and help with whatever you troubles are.
Other specialties
I identify as
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
This is a mindfulness approach where we explore personal experiences and limiting self-talk while figuring out actions that can be used to overcome the limitations.
Attachment-based
We explore relationships, attachment styles (anxious, avoidant, mixed, secure), understanding your own attachment style, and figuring out what you want to do about it.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
This therapy helps us observe, learn and understand the ways in which you think, how that impacts your feelings and behaviors (or vice versa), and skills to help minimize the impact of those thoughts and behaviors and emotions.
EMDR
This is a much more structured and specific therapy model. We would do skill building first and then utilize eye movement to reprocess and desensitize intense feelings about an event or situation. We can also build on more positive and secure feelings as well with the eye movements.
Gottman method
This is used for couples in therapy, but it can also be used when discussing relationships. This involves a few communication exercises for partners when struggling to get along or work through conflict.
