Hello, and welcome! My name is Laurie. As a seasoned therapist working with an extremely broad swath of clients over the years, I have come to believe that all the struggles we experience as humans ultimately come down to one thing: pain in the heart. Whether your challenges are primarily inside of you (how you feel and what you think), relational (how you're getting along with others), or situational (work difficulties, life transitions, as examples)--often it's all of the above-- your sense of happiness and well-being resides in how your heart feels. And simply put, if your heart doesn't feel okay, neither do you. My goal as your therapist will be to help you discover through our caring conversations and any "homework" you do between sessions what's really causing the pain in your heart, then giving you the time and space to express it. From there we figure out what related thoughts and behaviors may not be serving you and begin putting more positive, affirming ones in their place. You deserve to have a life full of everything you desire. Let's work together to help you grow into that life <3.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Before our first session, I will have read the preliminary info you hopefully shared (intake form, depression and anxiety questionnaires) and have some idea of what you're "bringing to our therapeutic table," so to speak. I will introduce myself and tell you a few details about logistics, and then I'll give you a chance to ask me any questions you may have at the start. From there, I invite you to start telling me what brings you to our session. As you share, I'll ask questions now and then to clarify my understanding, and the last part of our first session together will be developing a treatment plan, ie goal/s you'd like to meet. That's it! :)

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

Having done this work for a very long time, I have learned that clients brings a unique constellation of thoughts and feelings, capacities, mindsets, and behaviors to the therapeutic process. As such, I use a diverse set of tools for working with clients that honor your individual strengths and needs. I believe it's essential to uncover the root causes for a client's hurting, and a psychodynamic approach is helpful for that. Additionally, I often use solution-focused scaling and positive view of the future, journaling and examination of thinking errors associated with CBT, as well as mindfulness and relaxation techniques, to name a few. As an interfaith spiritual director, I may also invite spirituality into the conversation for clients who identify faith as a source of strength.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My superpowers as a therapist? First, I have walked the therapy road myself; as a wounded healer I know firsthand the difficulties and benefits of the healing journey. Clients tell me I am warm and friendly, easy to connect with and build trust. I am passionate about diversity in all its forms and welcome it wholeheartedly! Seriously, no exceptions. I'm also a straight shooter; you can trust me to be honest. I am able to help you see the deeper patterns at work inside you and your life. I believe everything in life (everything!) is on positive purpose, and I maintain that point of view no matter what. I would never disregard the hurt you may be feeling, but I will encourage you to look for the good. Lastly and essentially, I will support you unconditionally. I am always in your corner!

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I value diversity in all its forms and enjoy all ages, cultures, etc, as well as client constellations (individuals, couples, families). I speak Spanish.
