Ann Pedersen

(she/her)

LCSW, 6 years of experience

Hi. My name is Ann, and I'm glad you're considering doing something for yourself. It takes a lot of courage to start therapy for whatever is going on. I'm a licensed clinical social worker, have a master's degree in psychology, and I'm also a mom. I've worked with folks in community mental health, as a counselor for college students, and also in an inpatient setting. I think of it as an honor to hear people's stories and attempt to be there for them through challenging times. I try to create a warm environment where you feel accepted and never judged. Life can be tough, but counseling can bring out new insights and help you remove barriers that might exist in your life. It's also very helpful to have someone who objective and there just for you! I'll meet you where you are, focus on your strengths, and work towards YOUR goals.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session will include introductions, finding out what you want out of therapy, and some brief assessments in order for me to best tailor our treatment plans for making progress with goals. I'll do regular check-ins as therapy continues to make sure we're on track with your goals, and to make adjustments as needed. My focus is always on making this about you and what you want to achieve.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I try to create a welcoming and warm place where my clients feel accepted and never judged. I meet my clients where they are and see us as teammates working on a common goal. Because I've had experience in many settings as well as an academic background, this has helped me both understand the root causes and customize treatment plans that work. Let's work together!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work great with college students and also with clients struggling with anxiety, OCD, life adjustments, and Depression. I enjoy empowering clients through education, skill acquisition, self-exploration and reflection.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I don't believe in a one size fits all treatment method, but I often use CBT to help client's who feel "stuck" in negative thought patterns. This method can be so helpful because our thoughts drive many of our feelings and our behaviors. I enjoy seeing how CBT can help clients get out of their heads and into more "life".

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is a treatment method that focuses on acceptance, mindfulness and values. I have found it particularly useful with the treatment of OCD and generalized anxiety, as this treatment promotes psychological flexibility.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have used DBT to treat many different issues including those who have trauma backgrounds as well as difficulties with emotional regulation. It can also be very helpful in managing anxiety and certain symptoms associated with ADHD.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I use CPT for clients with PTSD or complex Trauma. This method of treatment is very effective in reducing the physiological and psychological symptoms of trauma.
