My goal as a therapist is to help you to get in the driver's seat of your own life. A history of trauma, experiencing depression, anxiety or ADHD, coping with life changes, and dealing with the stress of relationships, family, work, school and all the challenges that life throws at us can lead us to feel out of control and demoralized. I want to help you to better understand yourself, your thoughts and your mind, as well as teach you coping skills to empower you to live your healthiest, happiest life. I know that there is no cookie cutter approach to therapy, and I want to get to know you as an individual. My approach is trauma informed and I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing to help you to overcome unhealthy patterns and feel more secure and confident. I know it can be intimidating to start therapy. I like to use a sense of humor and warmth to build a great relationship based on mutual respect and understanding so you feel comfortable to share and be yourself. I hope that I get a chance to know you and help you to work through any difficulties that you are facing and build a better life.
During your first session, you can expect that I will take the time and attention to really get to know you, your needs, your goals and your strengths. I balance asking questions and listening about your story with introducing myself and the therapeutic process to help ensure that you are comfortable and your needs are met.
I started my career in Community Mental Health, and also have several years of experience in private practice. I love getting to know people as individuals and meeting them where they are at. I am also passionate about delivering high quality treatments shown to be effective by scientific research, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. I have a special interest and focus on helping people to heal from trauma and on women's mental health.
I work with people who are seeking help to overcome the impact of traumatic experiences, such as childhood abuse, a history of domestic violence, and experiencing painful life events to process these issues and gain more control over their lives. I have extensive experience in helping people overcome anxiety, depression, ADHD, difficulties with stress management, and self esteem issues. I also know that women face a number of mental health challenges due to stigma, gender based discrimination and violence, economic disparities and issues associated with pregnancy, post-partum, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and menopause. Woman-focused, feminist psychotherapy can help you to navigate the unique challenges women face. These include handling the balancing act of the many responsibilities women often have - parenting, relationships, career, family, etc., body image issues, and even overcoming the impact of discrimination, sexual harassment and domestic violence. Therapy can validate, support and empower you to handle everyday pressures, to heal from any past pain and move forward in a healthy direction.
I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and evidenced based treatment that helps people "re-wire" their thought processes to reduce anxiety, depression, and stress.
I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help people overcome the impact of having been through painful and difficult events to help them feel more empowered in their lives.
I am sensitive to the mental health challenges that women face and provide care for survivors of domestic violence, women managing stressors associated with motherhood, career and other challenges.
