Arlene Cotton
Hi, I’m Arlene. Do you feel stuck and overwhelmed by life? With all of the demands on your time, do you struggle to take care of yourself? While I can’t add more hours to the day, we can identify the challenges in your life, develop a plan to address those challenges, and practice the skills to make change. I operate from a person centered, holistic approach. Basically, I want to authentically understand what is going on in various aspects of your life. I incorporate cognitive behavioral approaches with mindfulness. Most importantly, I work with you to develop a plan that is going to work for your life.
First session
After our first session, you can expect to leave feeling authentically heard and with at least one goal you want to work towards. You will also leave with one specific action to take towards this goal. As our therapeutic relationship continues, you will receive ongoing support, new skills to practice, and encouragement to continue making change.
Strengths
I have significant experience working with individuals who have chronic illnesses or disabilities, including neurodiversity. I am also skilled with addressing issues of religion/spirituality and conflicts with other aspects of identity. Having grown up in rural America (Appalachia), I understand the nuances of rural culture and life.
