After graduating from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a Micro Social Work concentration, followed by passing the Texas state board exam granting me a license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have worked with individuals and families for over 25 years. My first post graduation position was Director of Child & Adolescent Unit at Intracare Psychiatric Hospital, followed by Director of Adoption Access, then Lead Therapist at St. Joseph's Hospital Adult Unit, and other agency and hospital positions scanning a 20 year period. My professional focus has always been to work with individuals, families and children in need of support, guidance and resources.
The first session is a touch of meet and greet, a tad of necessary information gathering, and time remaining to touch on the issues which bring the client to therapy at this time in their lives.
The majority of my work has included individuals looking for change. Whether needing to work through grief, make decisions about relationships, discover their passions in work, share childhood traumas, learn how to better advocate for themselves, or feel more joy in life. I have deep empathy and understanding of how we each function emotionally, what drives us to get up on the morning, and what goals and dreams we want to achieve. I always look forward to hearing about my clients dreams, disappointments, achievements and setbacks, all in an effort to help them understand how to move their lives more in the direction of personal peace.
I love working with all men, women and children from teens to seniors who want change in their lives and are ready to work to achieve it. As a multiracial family member I bring personal experience into therapy with POC's. I am proud to be supportive of all LGBTQ and non binary individuals. I am experienced working with addictions of many kinds. Issues such as infidelity and domestic abuse are common experiences in session. I hope to create a safe place for all clients to be both supported and feel comfortable to explore and learn.
I find that many clients are able to successfully reduce maladaptive behaviors by changing irrational or negative thoughts and patterns. The work is challenging and exciting and affords individuals hope for making significant changes in how they feel.
