Jamie Raffety

LCSW (she/her)1 year of experience

Hi, my name is Jamie Raffety and I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in trauma work, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I work with individuals who have experienced trauma, as well as those navigating anxiety, depression, mood instability, and life transitions. I believe strongly in a client-centered, client-led approach. While we'll discuss your goals at the start, those goals can shift and evolve because healing is not linear and it is not my place to impose a rigid structure on your unique process.

First session

I want clients to leave the first session feeling heard. The first session isn't about solving anything, it's about getting to know one another. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and what has felt hard to say out loud. I hope new clients leave feeling like this is a safe space. Not just confidential, but genuinely warm and nonjudgmental. You don't have to have the right words or the right answers, you just have to show up.

Strengths

I bring warmth, compassion, authenticity, and a deep respect for each client's unique story. I adapt multiple approaches and therapy interventions to what each person needs at any given time. I'm more comfortable sitting with difficult emotions and complex histories and I believe strongly that the therapeutic relationship itself is part of the healing. I do my best to ensure clients feel genuinely heard without any judgement.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is ready to do the work of showing up and engaging honestly. It won't necessarily be crisis-free or pain-free. They may be navigating the aftermath of trauma, struggling with anxiety and/or depression, or feeling stuck in patterns they can't quite name. They're open to exploring where those patterns come from, not just managing the symptoms. I work well with clients who appreciate a collaborative, conversational approach, having agency in the process. They don't need to come in with a neat list of goals; They just need to be willing to talk and explore.

Treatment methods

Supportive

While I do use multiple approaches, I aim to be supportive throughout the process. Relying on a warm, active, and empathetic relationship where one feels safe, validated, and understood. I offer a nonjudgemental space, verbal comfort, provide practical suggestions, offer praise and encouragement, and provide psychoeducation to help one understand a diagnosis, emotions, or behaviors so they can feel more in control.

EMDR

This is a structured approach designed to help people process and heal from traumatic memories and distressing experiences. You do not have to describe your trauma in detail and there will be no homework between sessions. EMDR starts with getting to know one another and then building on safety and coping resources before we touch any difficult material. When you're ready, we use Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) by eye movements or tapping while focusing on a targeted memory or belief. This process helps your brain reprocess the memory so it loses its emotional charge. What once felt overwhelming becomes something you can remember without being consumed by it.

Trauma-Focused CBT

This is an evidence-based treatment designed for people who are dealing with the effects of trauma. It combines trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral principles to help young people process what happened to them and develop healthy hoping skills. We start by building safety, psychoeducation, and coping skills before moving into trauma processing. By the end of treatment, clients typically have a better understanding of their trauma and reduced symptoms.
