Ebony Allen
I’m a licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience supporting women and families through life transitions, stress, anxiety, and depression. I specialize in working with adults, particularly women navigating pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and postpartum depression, as well as the emotional and identity shifts that come with motherhood and major life changes. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical, creating a space where you can be honest, feel supported, and work toward real change at a pace that feels manageable. I also help clients process past experiences that continue to impact current functioning, relationships, and emotional wellbeing, with a focus on building insight, coping skills, and emotional regulation.
First session
In our first session, we will spend time getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy. We will talk through your current concerns, your history, and what you are hoping to get out of treatment so we can begin shaping goals that feel realistic and meaningful for you. I will also complete a few brief assessments to better understand your symptoms and overall needs, which helps guide treatment planning. We will review important information about confidentiality and practice policies, and you will have space to ask any questions about the process. This session is meant to feel comfortable and conversational, with no pressure to share everything at once. By the end, we will have a clear starting point and a plan for how we can move forward together.
Strengths
I bring a calm, grounded, and nonjudgmental presence to each session, creating a space where clients can feel safe being honest and open. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based, helping clients recognize what is already working for them while building new tools to manage stress, emotions, and life challenges. I draw from years of clinical experience working with women, families, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life transitions, including pregnancy and postpartum adjustment. I also focus on practical strategies that can be applied in daily life, so clients feel supported not just in insight, but in real, sustainable change.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve Black adults and other adults who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, stress, or major life transitions and want a supportive space to sort things out and feel more grounded. I provide culturally responsive care that honors identity, lived experience, and the impact of systemic stressors, along with support for women during pregnancy, postpartum depression, and the transition into motherhood. Many clients come to me feeling stuck or disconnected and want help building coping skills, clarity, and healthier ways of managing life. My style is warm, collaborative, and focused on practical tools that support real change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a practical, structured approach to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In session, we work together to identify unhelpful or automatic thought patterns that may be contributing to distress, and then gently challenge and reframe them in ways that are more balanced and realistic. I also support clients in building concrete coping skills they can use outside of therapy, such as grounding techniques, behavioral activation, and emotion regulation strategies. CBT is used in a collaborative way in my practice, with a focus on helping clients gain insight while also making meaningful, day to day changes that support improved mood and functioning.
Couples Counseling
In couples counseling, I focus on helping partners improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and understand the patterns that keep them feeling stuck. Sessions provide a structured and supportive space where each partner can feel heard while also learning how to listen and respond more effectively to one another. We work on identifying recurring conflict cycles, building healthier ways to navigate disagreements, and increasing emotional awareness within the relationship. I also support couples in developing practical skills for managing stress, rebuilding trust when needed, and creating more intentional connection in daily life. The overall goal is to help partners feel more understood, more connected, and more equipped to navigate challenges together.
Psychoeducation
In my practice, psychoeducation is used to help clients better understand what they are experiencing and why they may be feeling or reacting in certain ways. I provide clear, relatable information about mental health symptoms, stress responses, trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions so clients can make sense of their experiences. This often includes discussing how the brain and body respond to stress, how patterns develop over time, and what contributes to emotional or behavioral responses. I also connect this information to practical strategies so clients can apply what they are learning in real life. The goal of psychoeducation is to reduce confusion, normalize experiences, and empower clients with knowledge that supports self-awareness and informed decision-making in their healing process.
