New to Grow
I’m Carolyn McGee, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of Mental Clarity Therapy. I help women, older adults, and individuals navigating anxiety, life transitions, grief, relationship challenges, and emotional overwhelm. My approach is warm, direct, and supportive, providing a space where clients feel heard, challenged, and empowered to create meaningful change. My approach can be direct depending on exactly what you need.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, the challenges you're currently facing, and what you hope to gain from our work together. My goal is to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental space where you can share openly at your own pace. Together, we’ll identify your strengths, explore areas of concern, and begin developing a plan that aligns with your goals. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start—just come as you are.
I bring a balance of compassion and honesty to every session. Clients often appreciate my ability to help them feel understood while also providing practical tools and meaningful feedback. I draw from evidence-based approaches such as CBT, faith-based counseling when desired, and Internal Family Systems-informed work to help clients gain insight, build resilience, and move forward with confidence. My goal is not just to help clients cope, but to help them grow.
I am best positioned to support women and older adults who find themselves navigating life transitions, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about their next chapter. This includes women and elderly men adjusting to changes in relationships, retirement, aging, grief and loss, caregiving responsibilities, health changes, empty nesting, career transitions, or shifts in identity and purpose. Many of my clients have spent years focusing on the needs of others and are now struggling to determine who they are outside of those roles. They may experience anxiety, depression, loneliness, stress, burnout, low self-worth, difficulty setting boundaries, or challenges adjusting to major life changes. Some are seeking support as they process the emotional impact of aging, loss, changing family dynamics, or the desire to find renewed meaning and fulfillment in life. My approach is warm, supportive, and collaborative. I help clients gain clarity, process difficult emotions, strengthen their sense of self, and develop healthy coping strategies that allow them to move forward with greater confidence, resilience, and purpose. Whether a client is navigating a major transition or simply feeling stuck, I strive to provide a safe space where they feel heard, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we explore unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge negative beliefs, and develop healthier ways of viewing situations. CBT helps clients gain practical coping skills to manage anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, and life transitions while creating lasting changes in their daily functioning.
Christian Counseling
For clients who desire faith-based counseling, I integrate Christian principles into the therapeutic process while respecting each individual's spiritual journey. Christian counseling may include exploring Biblical truths, prayer (when requested), faith-centered coping strategies, and examining how spiritual beliefs influence emotional well-being and decision-making. My goal is to help clients strengthen both their emotional health and spiritual foundation while navigating life's challenges.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed techniques to help clients understand the different "parts" of themselves that may influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we explore protective parts, wounded parts, and patterns that may have developed in response to past experiences. This approach helps clients build self-awareness, increase self-compassion, heal emotional wounds, and develop a stronger connection to their authentic Self, leading to greater emotional balance and personal growth.
