About me

I am a licensed clinical social worker and a retired professor from Arizona State University where I taught counseling skills to graduate students for 23 years. I have provided counseling services to individuals, groups, couples and families for over 30 years. Throughout my journey some of my greatest inspiration and insights have come through my relationship with my wife and soul mate of over 40 years and our 3 now adult amazing children. Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

My clients are the experts on themselves, together in the initial session(s) I believe in forming a partnership to understand from the client’s perspective the problem. This is fundamental in counseling before offering solutions or interventions, I believe it is essential for me as your therapist to invest time in comprehensively understanding your presenting problem(s). This understanding will form the foundation upon which effective intervention strategies can be built together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I genuinely care about the well-being of others. Both in my professional and personal life I take pride in being committed to helping others live their best self. Professionally the feedback I have consistently received is that I demonstrate compassion, warmth, and dedication to supporting others in their journey towards healing and personal growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

In my life journey I have found that providing therapy offers a unique opportunity to make a profound and lasting difference in the lives of others by fostering healing, growth, and resilience. I believe that within a crisis there is both danger and opportunity. I receive great satisfaction from helping others discover how obstacles can be opportunities for growth and learning. I challenge my clients to embrace 3 unavoidable realities of life, there will be some pain & uncertainty and there will always be work to be done and yet we have the opportunity to not only preserve but to thrive and live our best self.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

In taking an eclectic approach in therapy I believe in integrating techniques and theories from various therapeutic modalities to best meet the needs of individual clients. Rather than adhering strictly to one theoretical orientation, as an eclectic therapist I draw upon a range of interventions and perspectives to tailor treatment to each client's unique circumstances. Having taught graduates students at Arizona State University for 23 years I lectured in multiple therapeutic modalities over the years. Solution Focused Brief Treatment

While I believe in integrating techniques and theories from various therapeutic modalities to best meet the needs of individual clients. My primary point of reference is a Solution-Focused goal-oriented therapeutic approach focusing on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. My approach is rooted in the belief that individuals have the inherent resources and strengths to overcome their challenges, and the therapist's role is to facilitate the discovery and utilization of these resources.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

While I believe in integrating techniques and theories from various therapeutic modalities to best meet the needs of individual clients. I frequently utilize techniques grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy’s exploring with my clients the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach recognizes how our thoughts influence our feelings and behaviors, and that by changing our thought patterns, we can change how we feel and behave.

Nick Caruso provided a great therapy experience for me. We had a strong connection from the start. He asks incisive questions in a caring, welcoming manner. He listened deeply to my story and was able to right away provide insight into my issues. I quickly was able to feel like I could trust him and honestly confide my fears and struggles. These were met with compassion and hope. I will for sure be looking to connect with Nick again.

I wanted to express my appreciation for the exceptional guidance and support provided by Nick in his counseling services. His in-depth knowledge of various practices truly sets him apart from other counselors, and I value the non-pharmacological approach he takes in addressing personal challenges. I particularly appreciate how Nick focuses on empowering clients to take control of their actions, reactions, and thoughts, while reminding me that I’m human which I believe is the key to achieving lasting results. His approach recognizes that the solution often lies within the individual, and I appreciate this sense of accountability. Thank you Nick for your counseling services.
