I specialize in major life changes (marriage, growing family, divorce, death, career change, illness, caregiver stress, etc.) as well as trauma. All these things can cause you to no longer want to do the things you used to love, things that bring you joy. You feel like you to barely recognize yourself anymore. You may not even be able to put your finger on what happened; all you know is that you are not the same person you used to be, and you don’t like it. I utilize EMDR along with solution-oriented and cognitive behavioral approaches. I look at all aspects of your life; mind, body, environment, and spirit. What we believe about ourselves and the world around us totally affects our behavior and our feelings. In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Welcome to therapy! I'll use our first session to get to know you, what's going on now that brought you to therapy, what you want to get out of your therapy sessions, and a little bit about what got you here in life in the first place. I'll provide some information about what I do and how I do it, and how I will personalize it to what you need.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I'm gonna be real with you. There will be times we'll joke and laugh, and probably cuss here or there. There will be times I'll be blunt and call you out on your shenanigans. There will also be times I'll be gentle and hold the space for you so you can release your thoughts and feelings. I may know and understand mental health, but I'm not an expert on you or your life, nor do I pretend to be, so I'm not going to act like I know exactly how you should be living your life. I don't like being told what to do, and I assume you don't either. But I WILL help YOU figure out how you want or need to be living your best life for you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I am a behaviorist at heart. I believe that all behavior has meaning. I use CBT to help uncover the meaning behind why you are like this, why you do what you do, in order to help you grow into who you want to be.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Sometimes our emotions overwhelm us. DBT helps us look at what is behind the emotions, helping you learn how to control your emotions instead of them controlling you.

EMDR

EMDR is primarily used for trauma, but it can also be helpful in processing through "stuck" thoughts and emotions. It helps your brain process through the emotions stuck to strong, sometimes heavy memories so they don't affect your day to day life.
