It is my goal in life to be present in the moment, mindful of the beauties of life but also realistic about the challenges life entails. At this point in my life, I have experienced many ups and downs and have utilized positive thinking, solution focused problem solving and communication to help navigate the journey. It is my hope that I will be able to provide these same coping techniques and problem solving strategies to others who wish to improve their quality of life.
To help others I feel that listening and providing feed-back is a must. It is not my intent to dictate what needs to be done but to facilitate the process so the solution will become obvious. My belief is that each person has knowledge of the root of their problems but have not been able to put the pieces of the puzzle together to create a better image of themselves in this challenging world we live in.
Solution focused brief therapy is a method that utilizes active listening, clarifying issues, brainstorming and putting together an active plan that will lead to better coping skills.
Active listening, clarification of issues, identifying positive behaviors which have worked in the past, are part of solution focused therapy. As an LCSW I have worked in the mental health and medical field for the past 30 years. My experience has included extensive work with dialysis patients, assessments, treatment plans, medication management, and linkage to resources. Depression, anxiety, and the stages of grief have been my primary focus.
