LPC, 16 years of experience
Hello! My name is Jarrett Garland, a licensed professional counselor (LPC). I graduate from Duquesne University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a Master's of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families seeking counseling for over 10 years; online and in my private practice. I have worked within the penal system as a Mental Health Specialist, as well as worked at length as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor with individuals with Substance Abuse Disorder. Now within my private practice, I work with an array of clientele with various mental health disorders, specializing in couples, anxiety, and men's issues.
During our first session, we will take some time to get to know each other to begin building a client to clinician rapport. We will establish expectations the client has for the clinician, as well as expectations the clinician has for the client. We will also establish goal setting.
I endeavor to meet the client where the client is. I express empathy and encourage clients to establish goals in achieving their greatest sense of self. Lastly, I am here as a support and a guide to achieving their goals.
I love working with people that are ready to take those steps needed to gain mental health wellness and healing, even if they have really strong defenses and resistances. The best client to serve are those that are willing to work and I can be present in the session and able to jump into the process.

Wow I was embarrassed and ashamed to talk about some of the things I was feeling. During my first session Jarrett made me extremely comfortable. I wish I had not waiting some long and looking forward to my next session.

Jarret is great at listening for the "unspoken" emotions. He compassionately challenges negative patterns and firmly fosters more solution-orientated thinking and behaviors.

Jarrett is great! He's very honest and practical and always reminds me that my past trauma is not my final story. That I have the power to shape what my life looks like in spite of what I've been through. He encourages me to eliminate my excuses and always push forward.
The goal of CBT to help individuals identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, and to learn practical self-help strategies. This is done through establishing problem solving skills, adjusting negative thinking habits, and create realistic and achievable goals.
