Dr. William Barron is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Northwest Ohio, specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychological assessment. Through a reflective and collaborative therapeutic relationship, he helps clients better understand what their distress may be signaling and how it relates to deeper patterns of thought, emotion, and experience. In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Barron provides comprehensive evaluations, including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), substance use, bariatric suitability, pre-employment, and Fitness-for-Duty assessments.

First session

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin developing an understanding of what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask about what you have been experiencing, what you would like help with, and some of the experiences and relationships that have shaped you. There is no expectation that you share everything at once—we can move at a pace that feels comfortable. By the end of the session, my hope is that you feel heard and understood, have a better sense of how I approach therapy, and begin to see how we might work together. Just as importantly, the first session gives you an opportunity to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you.

Strengths

I think one of my greatest strengths is my ability to listen carefully and look beyond the immediate problem to understand what may be happening beneath the surface. I try to approach each person with genuine curiosity rather than assumptions, and I pay close attention to patterns that may not always be obvious at first.

Ideal clients

I work especially well with adults who are thoughtful, curious, and interested in understanding themselves at a deeper level. They may be successful in many areas of their lives but find themselves struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, self-doubt, or patterns they understand intellectually but have been unable to change. My ideal client does not need to come to therapy knowing exactly what is wrong or what they want to change. What matters most is a willingness to be curious about themselves and to look honestly at their experiences, relationships, and patterns. I particularly enjoy working with people who want therapy to be more than a place to manage symptoms—they want to better understand themselves and use that understanding to create meaningful change in their lives.

Treatment methods

Psychodynamic

I use psychodynamic therapy to help clients understand how past experiences, important relationships, and longstanding patterns may be influencing the way they think, feel, and relate to others today. Together, we look beyond the immediate problem and become curious about why certain difficulties or patterns keep recurring. This does not mean focusing exclusively on the past. Rather, we use an understanding of the past to make better sense of what is happening in the present. As clients become more aware of patterns that may previously have operated outside of their awareness, they often find themselves better able to respond differently and make more intentional choices in their lives and relationships.
