Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we will talk about your current challenges and what makes you, you. I look forward to spending time getting to know you individually and understanding how to best meet your needs. The first step for effective therapy is building a strong therapeutic alliance. Together, we will create a treatment plan designed to help you find your best self and start living a life with more meaning, love, and satisfaction.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My past experiences working with teenagers, young adults, persons of color have prepared me to work with people navigating a variety of difficulties including mood disorders (anger, depression, anxiety), sociocultural challenges (racism or discrimination), ADHD, trauma, and many other conditions. It is important to me to meet my clients with warmth and respect and to make sure that their experience in therapy is one that embodies competence, mutual dignity, and growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds and ages, including children, adolescents, and adults. I know that culture plays a significant role in our development and the way in which we see the world, so I work to get to know my clients and the contexts in which they live to provide services that are custom tailored to their specific needs.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

The person-centered counseling approach is rooted in the belief that every individual has within themselves the ability for growth and the tools they need to become the version of themselves that they wish to be. Our work together will involve figuring out how to bring that version to the forefront, and explore ways of becoming a more connected, flexible, creative, and confident.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Sometimes it can be helpful to approach life problems head-on cutting straight to interventions that can produce results quickly. By challenging root assumptions and augmenting them with meaningful behavioral strategies, I have helped clients address a number of personal challenges, including depression, anger, anxiety and others.

Christian Counseling

Every now and then you want to talk to someone who is going to understand your world view and honor your values. Working with a therapist who understands the Christian faith and integrates Christian principles into counseling can enhance the therapeutic process and, more importantly, allow clients to integrate themselves wholly in treatment.

I always leave Okenna's sessions feeling so refreshed, he helps me view my issues from a different angle and think about how I can go one layer under to see what each experience is teaching me about myself and the person I want to be. On top of that he creates a very warm, inviting, lighthearted atmosphere where I can be comfortable opening up for our discussions. Highly recommend.
