Hi, my name is Jessica Griffin. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 3 years of clinical experience. I received my Masters Degree from Troy University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have 15 years of experience teaching at-risk youth with the Florida Department of Education. I help young adults through the transition to adulthood. I also work with teachers and first responders struggling with the on and off the job stressors they face.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first therapy session, you can expect to discuss what brings you to therapy, share personal background information, and set goals for therapy. The therapist will ask questions to understand your struggles and may review confidentiality, policies, and what to expect in future sessions. It’s a chance to build rapport and create a safe, comfortable space for you to explore your concerns. You'll also have time to ask any questions and clarify next steps.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a 15 year educator, I saw such a need for helping students on a deeper level. I feel that becoming a therapist has truly made this possible. I am humbled by each and every one of my clients that have the strength to step into my office to begin the journey to healing.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with clients that are learning who they are as they enter adulthood. Going from having your life structured for you to suddenly having to decide what you'll do every second of every day, can be daunting! I find that clients at this age have already accomplished so much and have so many strengths to draw from as they establish themselves as adult members of society. As a 15-year educator, I know the pressure to control so many factors that are out of your control. Several years of my career were spent as an instructional coach and this is where I fell in love with being a supporter of teachers. I found that so many were struggling in the classroom for reasons that had nothing to do with school. Others, because of the seemingly never ending moving target. Additionally, I specialize in supporting frontline workers as well as and their families who are dealing with trauma, PTSD, sleep struggles, anger management, anxiety, depression, family issues, burnout, and other related concerns. I am a provider for Redline Rescue and was trained in Trauma Management Therapy by the University of Central Florida.

My treatment methods

Trauma-Focused CBT

I’ve found that many of my clients experience lingering effects from traumatic events. To help them manage these challenges, I use a combination of psychoeducation, relaxation techniques, and cognitive reframing to help clients build effective coping skills. Once a strong foundation is in place, I guide clients through the process of working through their trauma, using these skills to ensure they can handle any symptoms that arise.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize DBT with clients that are struggling to manage intense emotions, self-destructive behaviors, and/or interpersonal difficulties. Through my internship and employment at an inpatient behavioral hospital, I learned about and utilized DBT to help patients develop mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

I have training and experience with several types of Cognitive Behavioral therapy including Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma- Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Activation and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

With clients struggling with anxiety as a result of PTSD, exposure and response therapy can help clients confront their fears while preventing compulsive behaviors and avoidance responses.
