Welcome to my practice! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with more than 20 years of experience providing individual, couples, and family therapy. My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, anger issues, and self-harm behaviors. I want to get to know you and what might be happening with you that you are seeking counseling for. Most people come to therapy when they are in some type of distress. Sometimes this is conscious and sometimes not. If you are feeling powerless or distressed for some reason or grieving a loss in life, I would like to see how we can work in therapy. The way we work will depend on the issues you bring to therapy. I have experience with different approaches to therapy including but not limited to HUMANISTIC THERAPY (includes the importance of personal responsibility, and a positive, non-judgmental approach), STRUCTURAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (includes the importance of family structure and healthy boundaries), GOTTMAN (includes helping couples communicate better, resolve conflicts constructively, and create a shared sense of meaning), CBT (generally includes a short-term approach that helps you identify and change negative or unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior to improve your mood and overall well-being). All the above types of counseling styles point towards change or growth. Many times, there is a creative element to counseling and many times the counseling can give you more of a sense of purpose for yourself in life. Please see my calendar with Grow to sign up for an appointment today.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I want to get to know you and listen with understanding by creating a place where you can share, feel respected and have the possibility to change.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My strengths are an extension of my experience in the therapy field working with clients for many years to include patience, flexibility and a compassionate style of relating.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Someone who wants help but doesn't recognize what that might be. Someone who feels something is not right or missing but is not sure what that might be. Someone who wants things to be different but may not know how to make that happen. I would like to hear what is happening to see how I may be able to collaborate with you in therapy to uncover ways to change things for the better.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Trained with CBT and I have utilized it with Teens and Adults in different settings. It is a way to look at the present situation(s) and connect the clients thoughts, feelings and behaviors to address mostly negative thinking patterns that inhibit growth and use goal oriented ways to address the patterns to move towards positive change. This can help with depression, anxiety, trauma and other issues.

Structural Family Therapy

Trained working directly with families and helped them restructure the family in therapy to assist with better communication and boundary issues. This may include anger issues in a family- Drug/Alcohol issues in a family or death of a family member for example . Currently with individuals in therapy I would gather information about family relationships or lack there of to assist improving client communications and boundaries with others in the present. This method is most helpful when individuals come in with relationship issues.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I have experience with Solution Focused Treatment and many of the techniques are used in other therapies to assist clients. This method helps clients to focus on strengths and the positives to start to see other options for the issues they face.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

This is used many times with anxiety and situations where there is excessive worry or trauma. This can be used as part of the treatment for anxiety or trauma that has occurred in the present or past. This usually includes some form of relaxation or mind body type exercises.
