New to Grow
Hello there, I’m Jonathan West, a licensed clinical social worker providing telehealth services for adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, identity development, and emotional regulation. I became a therapist because I’ve always believed in the power of hero's journey; the story, connection, and transformation—whether it’s through the pages of a favorite book, the arc of a game character, or real-life growth in the face of challenge. I’m passionate about walking alongside people as they make sense of their experiences and reclaim their agency.
For our first session, you can expect a bit of a more logistical session where we are able to get to know each other and develop a strong, trusting therapeutic alliance. You'll help me understand what is bringing you to seek therapy, what you would like to get out of our time together, ensure that I am the right fit for what you are seeking, and help paint a picture so that I can put those puzzle pieces together in a clear, coherent manner. Towards the end of the session, we will set specific goals and objectives for your therapy and schedule a follow up session.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in evidence-based practices like ACT, DBT, and solution-focused therapy. I also incorporate elements of geek therapy—drawing on stories, games, and characters you connect with—to help make the work be more relatable and meaningful. Whether you’re feeling stuck in a loop, overwhelmed by side quests, or ready to level up your emotional skills, I offer a supportive space to explore what healing and growth can look like. Therapy with me happens online, in a setting that’s secure, flexible, and designed to meet you where you are—literally and emotionally. If you're looking for a therapist who brings both clinical expertise and an appreciation for your unique world, I’d love to connect.
My ideal client is an adult who feels like they're at a crossroads - struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, identity questions, or a major life transition - and wants more than symptom relief. They want to better understand themselves, build practical coping skills, and create a life that feels authentic and meaningful. They may feel like they've lost their sense of direction or are ready to rewrite their story but aren't sure where to begin. Many of the people I work best with are naturally curious, thoughtful, and imaginative. They often connect deeply with books, video games, fantasy, science fiction, tabletop role-playing games, or other forms of storytelling. These interests aren't required, but they provide a rich language for exploring emotions, values, relationships, and personal growth. They appreciate a therapist who understands these passions rather than dismisses them. My ideal client values collaboration over being "fixed." They want therapy to be an active process where we work together to identify patterns, develop emotional regulation skills, increase psychological flexibility, and take meaningful steps toward the life they want. They're open to evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, while also appreciating creative interventions that make therapy engaging and personally relevant.
Other specialties
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use ACT to help clients become more flexible in how they respond to stress, anxiety, and self-doubt. Together, we'll identify your values, develop healthier ways of relating to difficult emotions, and take practical steps toward the life you want—even when challenges are present.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to help clients build emotional regulation skills, communicate more effectively, and respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively. My goal is to help you feel more confident navigating life's challenges while maintaining healthier relationships.
Christian Counseling
If faith is an important part of your life, I'm happy to incorporate it into our work together. We may explore Scripture, prayer, spiritual practices, or Christian values alongside evidence-based therapy approaches. My goal is to help you grow emotionally, mentally, and spiritually in a way that aligns with your beliefs. Faith is always included at your comfort level and never assumed or required.
Experiential Therapy
I offer experiential therapy using tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) as a creative way to build social skills, emotional resilience, confidence, and self-awareness. Through collaborative storytelling and guided reflection, clients can safely practice new behaviors, explore personal challenges, and develop practical skills they can apply in everyday life.
