New to Grow
I am originally from a small town in rural southeastern NC. We are home to the World’s Largest Frying Pan, however, I don’t remember any events of it being used! I worked in the mental health and substance use arenas for a total of 10 years before I decided to become a therapist. I noticed as a case manager we help clients with their external needs food, transportation, securing employment, and independent living skills. If someone is holding on to past traumatic events or new ones, they will not be able to function as a whole person. My goal as a therapist is to help people help themselves. We can be the villain in our own story, but we must learn how to eventually save ourselves.
Our first session is basically a “get to know you” and “get to know me” encounter. You identify what you desire to address and we go from there.
In therapy, after identifying the problem or root(s) of the problem, clients tend to solely focus on it. In counseling, I utilize several therapies and techniques, such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and how to better manage distress. We challenge negative thoughts, feelings, and irrational fears. We work on identifying what Living Your Best Life looks like. We utilize solution-focused techniques to learn how to help ourselves better.
I use a person-centered approach in providing therapy. I work with adults aged 18 and older who are navigating through the life span and aim to achieve their best life worth living. I focus on helping individuals work through past childhood traumas, familial conflict, life transitions, and other aspects of the life span. The goal is to help you help yourself.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment
Solution Focused Brief Treatment is a short-term, goal-oriented therapeutic approach that emphasizes constructing solutions rather than analyzing problems. It focuses on the present and future, utilizing client strengths and "exceptions" (times when the problem is absent) to create positive change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered is a humanistic, non-directive approach that empowers clients to lead sessions and self-actualize. It emphasizes the therapist providing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness to foster a safe, supportive environment for psychological growth and personal change.
