Carla Darnell
My 30+ year career has found me working with people with anxiety and depression issues, as well as the incredible stresses due to life circumstances. I have been able to help clients who have found themselves with personality or impulse control issues. I enjoy gardening, traveling and learning new things. I am an optimist. My general way of relating to people is one of listing intently enough to be able to see things from their point of view, and to show respect, warmth, and humor.
First session
The first session is a get-acquainted session where I ask a lot about the general things in a person's life as well as the issues that brought them to therapy. As soon as possible, we develop a plan for how to move forward.
Strengths
I am good at understanding another person's point of view and am very positive about the ability of people to make changes.
Ideal clients
I enjoy helping adults who are trying to improve their experience in life whether it is for current stressors or past problems. Many times these take a good bit of time to change, so clients need to have a bit of patience and willingness to practice new ways of thinking.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is used to teach clients how to improve their life experience by more positive self statements about how they can cope with issues.
