I am a licensed clinical social worker and have trained as a professional life coach. I have been working in this field since 2009 and had been a special education teacher for 13 years and am currently working as a school social worker in high school in Tampa, Florida for the last 8 years. I have a lot of experience with working with children and adults when wanting to address challenging behaviors and building on individuals' strengths. I also have worked with couples for years, helping partners learn active listening and build on their communication skills to learn how to validate others' feelings and thoughts.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session you can expect me to ask why we are meeting- what are your goals, gather information about your current situation in order to get to know each other better and begin building a therapeutic relationship. Depending on the therapy and/or goals, knowing your background and childhood is not always necessary.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have worked and been trained to work with all populations. Even if I have not experienced something, I am able to help clients work through their experiences and overcome obstacles with me by their side. We can create goals and steps to reach and move past barriers together. I have clients return even years later to work through current concerns based on the success they experienced with our therapeutic relationship, in the past.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is not defined by demographics but rather the client's willingness and ability to engage in the therapeutic process, seeking personal growth and actively participating in their own well-being. Ideally, someone who is open, motivated and committed to making changes in their life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I help clients recognize unhealthy thoughts and behaviors and through CBT, we are able to change unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors that negatively impact your life. Together we will create structured goals to aim at developing practical strategies and improve your quality of life. When a client has challenging and negative thoughts, we need to use techniques such as cognitive restructuring to challenge and modify those thoughts. This involves recognizing the thought distortions, reevaluating them in the light of reality and developing more balanced perspective.

Compassion Focused

This therapy helps clients recognize the influence compassion has on others' happiness as well as their own. Clients develop skills that enable them to experience kindness and grace towards themselves and consideration for others through the use of mindfulness-based strategies.

Couples Counseling

When working with couples we work on what each partner needs in the relationship and how to reach the needs that are lacking. We work on active listening and communication skills, where each partner can talk freely without feeling judged but instead validated.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This is a short term, goal-oriented treatment. We will focus on identifying and building on existing strengths and resources to create positive change. We will emphasize the present and future, shifting the focus from problem analysis to solution-building. This therapy is meant to be brief, positive and empowering. It can reach and work a variety of clients, such as, individuals, couples, families, and groups addressing challenges and achieve desired outcomes.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

We will encompass various interventions that incorporate mindfulness practices to cultivate present-moment awareness and reduce reactivity to internal and external experiences. We will aim at enhancing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and psychological flexibility by clients learning to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgement. Though this therapy is used to help with depression and anxiety; it can also improve overall well-being and quality of life.
