Hello and welcome! I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist in Ohio and South Carolina with over 23 years of therapeutic experience and education in the mental health field. I specialize in providing online therapy for women struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, relationship stress, family issues, parenting stress, workplace stress, and issues with feeling overwhelmed and burned-out.
In your first session we will go over your mental health history, identify your therapy goals and create a treatment plan that will best help you start healing and feeling better.
I sincerely love helping empower women and seeing them rise up into the best version of themselves! I have over 23 years of therapeutic experience to help clients with developing effective therapy goals and positive outcomes. I aim to create a safe emotional space, and natural rapport with my clients so they can heal and grow. I am approachable, open, caring, curious, and have a good sense of humor :)
By using a cognitive-behavioral approach in therapy together, we will first identify your thoughts and feelings, and then explore how those thoughts and feelings affect you internally. We will take that information to help discover how these thoughts and feelings are expressed in your behavioral patterns and interactions with others. This deeper understanding of yourself will help you begin to make the changes you want to make in your life within yourself, and within your relationships with others.
When you are ready, and at a pace that is comfortable for you, I will help you begin healing the trauma and pain from the past that holds you back from living the life you deserve. You will learn to identify your emotional triggers, and uncover where those emotional pain points first developed earlier in your life. You will learn about the body's threat response system and how it impacts your reactions and interactions with others. You will explore how and where your body often stores unhealed emotional pain, and learn how to release it. You will learn how to use self-soothing/emotional regulation skills, and effective coping skills to help you feel relief in your everyday life.
Attachment-based therapy looks at the connection between your early attachment experiences with primary caregivers, and the whether you developed a secure or insecure style of attachment with them. You will explore if you were able to form healthy emotional and physical relationships as an adult, and if not, attachment-based therapy aims to help you build or rebuild trusting, supportive relationships that will help you feel emotionally safe. In therapy you will explore the early relationships with your parent or caregiver, your family dynamics as you grew up, and the significant childhood experiences that shaped you. You will explore connections between your childhood relationships and how those impact your adult relationships—how the past may have influenced the present. You will begin to understand your emotions and behaviors better, and learn to build skills to help improve your current relationships.
I use a strength-based approach in therapy which treats you as the expert on yourself. I will help guide you toward a reframing of your personal history of traumas, stressors, and pain with more emphasis on yourself as a survivor rather than as a victim, and more emphasis on your strengths and survival skills rather than on your perceived weakness. The goal is for you to recognize that you already have the skills and strength necessary to cope with tough situations, and you can learn to use those skills effectively. In therapy you will explore what you hope to achieve in the future, and what progress looks like for you. From here, you and I will work on a plan to use your identified strengths to make incremental changes in your life to help get you to the place you want to be. Drawing attention to your successes can remind you of the natural inner strength you have, and give you a sense of hope and confidence to tackle your goals, and live a more empowered life.
