About me

Hello, I’m Tomika, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a supervisory designation. I offer telehealth therapy services to individuals and families across all age groups, with flexible appointments including evenings and weekends. My areas of expertise include trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), both of which have proven effective for my clients. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support clients in creating meaningful change. Through ACT, I help clients reduce the struggle with difficult thoughts and emotions, normalize discomfort, build mindfulness skills, clarify values, and take action toward what matters most. With CBT, I assist clients in recognizing the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while challenging unhelpful patterns and building healthier ones. Using DBT, I focus on helping clients regulate emotions, manage distress, and improve relationships through mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. In my work with couples, I emphasize effective communication, rebuilding trust, and understanding one another’s needs to determine whether and how to move forward in their relationship. My therapeutic approach centers on creating a safe, supportive environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I believe therapy is collaborative and focus on empowering clients to enact positive change, develop practical skills, and achieve personal growth. Each session is designed to leave you with tools to support your journey toward peace of mind, balance, and fulfillment. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or a life transition, I am here to guide and support you every step of the way.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During the first session, I work to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their experiences, thoughts, and emotions without judgment. We begin by discussing your reasons for seeking therapy and any relevant history, including past experiences with mental health support, current challenges, and goals for treatment. For couples, we explore the relationship history, communication patterns, and areas where each partner hopes to see change. Together, we clarify your personal or relationship values and identify what a successful outcome would look like for you. I assess patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as coping strategies and strengths, to better understand how to support you in creating meaningful change. I introduce evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, or Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), depending on your needs, and may guide you through a brief experiential exercise or skill practice. By the end of the session, we collaboratively establish initial goals and identify actionable steps to work on between sessions. I summarize key points, reinforce support and safety, and discuss next steps to ensure that each session is purposeful and tailored to your unique needs. The first session sets the foundation for a collaborative, growth-oriented therapeutic process designed to help you move toward greater balance, emotional regulation, and fulfillment.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Using DBT, I focus on helping clients regulate emotions, manage distress, and improve relationships through mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. My strengths include patience and a calm, even demeanor, which help clients feel comfortable and engaged, fostering a strong therapeutic alliance. I prioritize being available and supportive, ensuring clients know they have guidance and collaboration as they work toward growth, greater balance, and an improved quality of life. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their experiences, develop practical skills, and achieve meaningful personal and relational growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who is ready to engage in a collaborative process to address emotional, behavioral, or relational challenges. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, or difficulties navigating life transitions, and are seeking support in understanding and managing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They are open to learning practical, evidence-based strategies, including mindfulness, emotional regulation, cognitive restructuring, and skills for improving relationships. For couples, my ideal clients are committed to exploring communication patterns, rebuilding trust, and understanding each other’s needs to determine the future of their relationship. This client values personal growth and is willing to engage in both introspection and action, including practicing skills between sessions. They are looking for a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space to explore their experiences, gain insight, and develop practical tools to live more meaningfully and in alignment with their values.
