Angeal Davis

LCSW (she/her)8 years of experience

Hello! I am a quirky black nerd or “blerd” who is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and I am passionate about mental wellness. As a member of many marginalized demographics, I understand the importance and impact of intersectionality not just on the macro level through laws and policies but also in the day to day. As an LCSW I graduated in 2018 from Arizona State University with a Masters in Social Work Magna Cum Laude and with my Bachelors in Psychology with minor in Sociology Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona in 2013. I have worked in behavioral health my whole adult life thus far. I seek to lead with non judgement, empathy and humor to connect with others. I am a semi recreationally retired athlete (rugby and basketball), massive lover of dogs, kite flying, ocean drums and “hot takes”. I look forward to connecting and ultimately helping you move forward on your healing journey in life.

First session

You can expect that I will be present and that I will meet them where they are at in life. You will be met with patience and genuine care. I began providing therapy in 2016 and I often hear how I ask questions that have not been asked before, in thoughtful ways that plants seeds for self reflection, and ultimately action for desired change.

Strengths

I am a strong advocate for utilizing a person-centered approach in counseling. I find that when therapists lead with authenticity and humanity, it leads to clients feeling seen—and that is paramount for rapport, safety and ultimately lasting change. My goal is to build a positive therapeutic connection to best support you. I am a firm believer in using an integrated approach to best tailor treatment to fit my your needs as best I can and this can include holding space, giving you an opportunity to build up tolerance to sitting in silence and gentle confrontation in ways that promote introspection instead of shame to better help you make the changes you are seeking for your mental health.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is one who is aware of the intersectionalities impacting their journey, not to be used as a crutch, but to be used to help empower their growth in the face of what is beyond their control. There is no such thing as a "perfect client", but a client is open even in the face of doubt and hopelessness is one that I am confident can cultivate the seeds for an improved state of being I intend on planting during our work together.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use a culturally responsive CBT approach to help clients explore how their unique identities and life experiences shape their thoughts, empowering them with practical tools to break unhelpful cycles and heal on their own terms.

Motivational Interviewing

I use culturally responsive Motivational Interviewing to help clients tap into their own values and diverse life experiences, guiding them to resolve ambivalence and safely drive positive change on their own terms.

Racial trauma treatment

I provide a dedicated, culturally affirming space for clients to process the deep impacts of racial trauma and systemic oppression, honoring your lived experiences as we work together to release somatic stress, deconstruct internalized narratives, and reclaim your peace and joy.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

"I operationalize DBT through an intersectional lens, teaching clients how to tolerate immediate distress, regulate heavy emotions, and communicate effectively, all while deeply validating the structural challenges they face so they can build a life that feels genuinely worth living.
