Pamela Johnson
I am a cognitive behavioral psychotherapist with over a decade of experience working with adolescent, parents, and adults. I meet my clients where they are and overtime, I empower my clients to enhance their emotional well being using various tools and techniques. My practice focuses on the treatment of anxiety, depression and trauma.
I am most successful with helping clients to identify negative thoughts, walking them through how those thoughts impact their emotions and behaviors, and helping them to reframe those thoughts so that they can better deal with challenges in life.
I am a certified child and adolescent trauma professional. I have over 15 years experience treating anger management for individuals and in a group setting for youth and adults. I am most successful with helping clients to identify negative thoughts, walking them through how those thoughts impact their emotions and behaviors, and helping them to reframe those thoughts so that they can better deal with challenges in life.
First session
I primarily see individuals and I want my clients to feel seen and heard after the first session. I also provide my clients with tools and techniques that they can use to address/reduce their identified symptoms as described to me during the assessment phase. My clients will leave educated on the steps that will take place to help reduce symptoms. My clients will also be informed of what to do in the event they experience an emergency in between counseling sessions.
Strengths
I want to earn the trust of my client's so that they feel safe being vulnerable during sessions so I am intentional with active listening and being nonjudgmental . I make it a goal to get to know each client as their unique individual selves. I do expect my clients to actively participate in the therapeutic process and this includes the client setting goals and making progress towards those goals set. I am great at listening and I also enjoy the process of guided discovery to help the client increase self awareness and grow. I use compassion, respect, empathy, self care techniques, and education to empower my clients to live fulfilled lives.
Ideal clients
My ideal client recognizes their need for therapy on their own and are willing to actively participate in the treatment process to go from where they are to where they envision themselves being. If the client is ready to do the work, even at a slow pace, I am the ideal person to help them achieve their emotional well being goals.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
As a cognitive behavioral therapist, I believe that if I can assist my client in changing their challenging thoughts, then I can help them produce more positive emotions and behaviors.
