Hello, my name is Stephen Pleasant, and I'm a psychotherapist for men. Why therapy for men? Well, because sometimes a man just needs a pork shoulder to cry on. That being said, I will also work with women as well. It’s a recognized human tendency for men to get “stuck” in their lives and to end up “settling” for the status quo when deep down they know they are capable of a great deal more. Here’s the truth; You are never “stuck” with your present circumstances. The Game of Life is a psychological and spiritual journey and winning at this game requires you to change your play and learn to think differently and do things in a new way. I help men break out from being “stuck” in life, resigned to producing results that are disappointing to them and others. My goal is to see transformative progress in men’s confidence, clarity, and self-expression, so that they may gain the fuller personal and work life they thought was beyond them.

I bring something to individual and couples therapy that is rare today and not from a text book, that is lived experience. In drawing from different evidence based schools of thought in combination with my lived experiences we will employ such modalities of therapy such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Adversity and struggle are situations that are common. The goal to avoid both would be ideal but that is not reality. Peace and calmness in the mist of adversity and struggle is a possible reality and what we will strive to help you achieve.

Do you find yourself walking through a tough time, as though you are facing more than you can handle? Do you feel alone with nowhere to turn? It would be my honor to walk alongside you as you face trials, pain, change or isolation. To help you navigate through life with meaning and regain a sense of hope. To see you step into freedom from worry, unhealthy thoughts, shame, or self-doubt. Wherever you find yourself, I’d like to meet you there. I believe it is okay to be exactly where you are. However, for your sake, I do not believe it is okay to stay there. God has so much more for you and I would be honored to have the opportunity to help you discover it.

Hi, I’m Ashley — a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical addiction specialist, trauma-focused therapist, anxiety/overthinking specialist, and proud dog mom to a pup named Chaos (because yes, life really is on-theme). I work with teens and adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, burnt out, or exhausted from repeating the same patterns — even the ones they swear they’re done with — and not knowing how to break out of them. Many of my clients care deeply, think constantly, and carry more than their fair share. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, panic spirals, people-pleasing, emotional shutdowns, recovery challenges, family stress, or a brain that refuses to “just calm down,” you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. My style is warm, direct, and practical. I’m a real person in the room — steady, supportive, and honest — and I’m not afraid to use gentle humor when it helps take the edge off. Therapy doesn’t have to feel cold, confusing, or like talking to a silent statue. You’ll get someone who listens deeply, explains the why behind your patterns, challenges you when you’re ready, and celebrates even the tiny wins you’re convinced “aren’t a big deal.”

I was raised in Memphis, TN and attended college in Nashville, TN where I received a BS degree. I got married while in college. We moved to Raleigh, NC after graduation. We've been married over 40 years. We have eight adopted children. I began working for the USPS once we moved to NC. After working there for 10 years, I realized that I wanted to change careers and fulfill the dream of helping others in a more practical way. I took a break from work and obtained a MA in Counseling. After receiving my LPC license, I worked in various settings within the counseling field. I have worked in Child Protective Services, worked for a couple of mental health clinics, held a private practice, worked in crisis intervention for 10 years in a hospital setting, returned to the clinic setting, and have once again opened a private practice. I am licensed as a LCMHC and LCAS in NC.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my biography. I am so happy you went with your instinct to start counseling. I have been a Therapist for over 15 years and my specialization is marriage and family therapy. I have over 30 years experience working with people in one capacity or another. I was a substitute teacher at an alternative high school; I was a silver star rescue diver and an EMT-Intermediate; and, I had worked at a psychiatric hospital for people ages 12 through 80 as well in a private psychiatric office. These few noted experiences have led to my capacity to be an empathetic Therapist while helping others achieve their own goals using their own strengths.

The population I serve includes adults, adolescents, and families. I provide counseling in both individual and group settings. My theoretical orientation is an eclectic approach that has its main theoretical framework from cognitive behavioral Therapy and combines skills and techniques from reality therapy such as choice theory, WDEP (wants, doing and direction, evaluation, and planning) and solution focused therapy such as miracle question and scaling. Overall I work with the client to improve their thinking pattern in order to improve or change their behaviors, coping with challenges effectively, and create meaning in their lives that honor who they are in the here and now.

I am a professional counselor, consultant, human development and nature healing specialist. I am licensed with the state of North Carolina Board for Licensed Professional Counselors (#6516) and a National Certified Counselor (#229164). I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1996 and both Masters and Specialists degrees of Education in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida in August of 2000. My continuing ed & training focus has mainly been on trauma and dissociation throughout the last 26 years. The majority of my life experiences have centered around learning as much as I can about trauma and dissociation; how we can increase our awareness in order to increase our "window of realness." We often hear about improving our "window of tolerance" in order to tolerate the ever more increasing demands of our world. By increasing our "Window of realness" we move toward our most authentic selves. I often use an eclectic approach bringing together a variety of types of therapy to help my clients express what they need to express from the various different developmental levels that traumatic material gets stuck within. For example in one session you may find we start out by talking and end by drawing, playing, or dancing. Whatever brings you in: trauma, grief, struggling with dissociation, anxiety or depression, it's my hope that by providing a soft place to land, you will feel comfortable enough in your own skin to begin to be curious to explore what's on your mind. You'll feel acknowledged, respected and empowered as an individual, as a human being, with rights and needs, through the compassionate and empathic way that I will relate with you. From, the very first session, you can begin to claim back your power.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with over 18 years of experience in mental health and addiction counseling field. I am licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Utah, and Maine. My career has included extensive work with Veterans, Active Duty personnel, and federal employees, providing trauma informed care to those navigating the unique challenges of high stakes, high responsibility environments. I specialize in supporting neurodivergent adults, LGBTQIA+ individuals, those living with chronic illnesses, mental health issues due to chronic pain and medical trauma, trauma survivors, addiction, burnout, anxiety, women’s issues, and major life transitions. My approach is nonjudgmental and trauma informed, meeting clients where they are with curiosity and compassion while creating a space for authentic growth and understanding. I practice a relational and integrative approach grounded in collaboration and clinical insight. I value appropriate self disclosure when it supports the therapeutic process and use my training and lived experience to help clients develop tools that genuinely serve them. My work draws from an eclectic foundation that includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Somatic approaches. I also integrate alternative and mind body methods that expand healing beyond traditional talk therapy, supporting both emotional and physiological well-being. I practice from an intersectional perspective, recognizing that our identities—race, gender, sexuality, neurotype, ability, culture, and lived experience—intersect to shape how we move through the world and how the world responds to us. Healing requires honoring all of those parts. I believe neurodivergence is not something to be fixed, but understood, supported, and celebrated. Therapy is a space to learn your brain, not fight against it, to understand how it works, identify what it needs, and build systems of support that honor your authentic wiring.
