Miyisha Holiis
I find joy in working with all of my clients, while helping them navigate life's curveballs. Be it the unique challenges that arise as an individual, married, at home, work, school, in the police or fire departments, the NFL, the MLB, or collegiate athletics.
My primary goal is to understand my client's core values and who they really are.
Or, after losing your individual identity after starting a family, or after retiring.
First session
My first sessions are about finding out who you are and to hopefully make you as comfortable as possible. I will take the time to listen and get to know you. We will discuss what brings you to therapy and what you would like to achieve during out time working together.
Strengths
My approach starts with Empathy and Compassion! My primary goal is to understand my client's core values and who they really are. Through the therapeutic process, and lots of active listening, I’ve helped many clients reach an array of outcomes.
Ideal clients
My ideal client comes to therapy with the intention of working towards a solution and to hopefully finding some relief from whatever is ailing them. Therapy is not one size fits all, and I hope to assist them with finding their path to success. My communication style is very comfortable and relaxed. I know how uncomfortable it can be to talk with someone about your innermost secrets. I try to make my sessions as easy going as possible to eliminate any added stressors that may arise just walking in the door or logging onto telehealth.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help my clients identify and change their unhelpful thought patterns and negative behaviors to improve how their over all well being.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients focus on their strengths and build on what is already working in their lives. Instead of staying stuck in problems, we work together to identify goals, small steps, and practical solutions that create meaningful change. This approach is especially helpful for clients who want to feel more empowered and see progress in a shorter amount of time.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help my clients process and heal from traumatic experiences. I help my clients understand how trauma impacts their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while teaching them skills to help them cope and manage distress. Sessions are paced in a safe and supportive way, allowing clients to build emotional regulation skills, increase a sense of safety, and gradually process difficult experiences.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore ambivalence, strengthen motivation for change, and build confidence in their ability to reach personal goals. Motivational Interviewing is especially helpful when working with clients experiencing anxiety, substance use concerns, trauma, life transitions, and difficulties with motivation or self-esteem. My approach is collaborative, nonjudgmental, and client-centered, meeting individuals where they are in the change process. I use reflective listening, open-ended questions, affirmations, and goal exploration to help clients identify personal values, increase insight, and develop healthier behaviors.
