Jo Bloomer
Do you find yourself repeating the same patterns in relationships, struggling with self-doubt, or feeling anxious about how others see you? Maybe you spend a lot of time trying to understand yourself and others, yet still find yourself in familiar situations that leave you feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure of what you need. I'm Jo Bloomer, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply, build self-trust, and create more satisfying relationships. My approach is relational and attachment-informed. Together, we'll explore how past experiences may be shaping your present, recognize patterns that no longer serve you, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Together, we'll explore how past experiences may be shaping your present, recognize patterns that no longer serve you, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.
I aim to create a warm, collaborative space where you can be honest about what you're experiencing without feeling judged. Our work can include deeper exploration of longstanding patterns as well as practical ways to navigate anxiety, boundaries, self-esteem, and life transitions. You don't have to figure everything out before coming to therapy. We can start with what's happening in your life now and work toward the changes that matter most to you.
First session
In our first session, we'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, what you've been struggling with, and what you'd like to change. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet. Together, we'll begin identifying patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop a direction for our work. My goal is for you to feel heard and leave with at least one insight or helpful tool you can begin using right away.
Strengths
My strengths are helping people understand recurring relationship patterns, build self-esteem, navigate anxiety, and develop healthier boundaries. My style is warm, gentle, and relational, and clients often tell me that I make starting therapy feel approachable. I combine deeper insight with practical tools to support meaningful, lasting change.
Ideal clients
I work with adults who want to understand themselves better and create meaningful change in their lives and relationships. You may struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, or recurring relationship patterns that leave you feeling stuck. Perhaps you find yourself prioritizing others' needs, questioning yourself, or having difficulty setting boundaries. I work with people who are ready to explore these patterns with curiosity and develop new ways of relating to themselves and others. I welcome LGBTQIA+ clients and those navigating identity, life transitions, and questions about connection and belonging. Together, we'll build on your strengths, deepen self-understanding, and work toward greater confidence, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of self.
Treatment methods
Psychodynamic
I work psychodynamically, which means we look at unconscious patterns shaping how you experience yourself and others. So much of what drives our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors happens outside of our awareness. These unconscious patterns influence how we move in the world (how we respond to others, protect ourselves, and make choices) - often automatically and before we are conscious about what is really happening for us. We will explore early relationships, family dynamics, attachment, formative experiences, unconscious patterns, defenses, and internal conflicts that continue to influence your life today. This way of working requires curiosity and openness around why certain patterns keep repeating. The deeper we dig, the more freedom, choice, and sovereignty you will have as you move through your life.
Attachment-based
I use an attachment-based approach to understand how our earliest relationships (Mother, Father, Primary Caregivers) can shape the way we currently experience closeness, trust, conflict, vulnerability, and belonging. Our family of origin creates the template for future attachment and can follow us into adult relationships - including friendships and romantic partnerships. Those original templates are so significant that we often find ourselves repeating familiar dynamics - even when we consciously want something different.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to explore the thoughts, beliefs, and cognitive distortions that can shape how we experience ourselves and our relationships. Through a relational lens, we can get curious about where these patterns come from, muscle test if they are actually true and develop more flexible ways of thinking and responding.
